There where a number of proposals for a bigger wing (& delta) supersonic Sea Vixen, along with fuselage stretches, all detailed in BSP Jet Fighters.  Apart from that, how about conventional side by side cockpit, like the DH.110?  Strike variant?  The Vixen always seemed to me like it could be quite a bomb truck.  If your feeling adventurous, remove the twin booms & convert it to a conventional fuselage?

There was a proposal for an interim naval night-fighter, called the DH112 I think, which was basically a Sea Venom front-end and wings with an Avon in a conventional rear fuselage and a T-tail. Maybe they'd resurrect the idea for a Sea Vixen follow-on: after all it would be more common (same engines) with the donor twin-boomer than the DH112 was.....

Re Sea Vixen bombers, they were offered, even as a cheaper, under-spec submission to the GOR.339/TSR.2 requirement.

Weave, the DH.116 was the 'Super Venom' with conventional tail.  DH.112 was actually the Venom, with the convuluted mess that was the Sea Vixen procurement, the Venom's design was started after the Sea Vixen but entered service significantly before.  Like you say, no reason why the Sea Vixen couldn't go down this route.  Again, Air Vectors is our freind:

Thanks Lee.  I'll probably leave it with it being a Dujin kit, don't want to take out a second mortgage.  Can't find one anyway.

What if the De Havilland Comet Airliner didn't have the early failures (say they already fixed the windows) and entered service all around the world and especially with some US and other (QANTAS?) airlines?  Maybe even put in production by someone like Martin in the USA.

Of course taking this concept a little further, how about some USAF/USN (and other Air Forces) military Comet/Nimrod variants:


  • USN Nimrods;
  • Tanker Comets;
  • AEW&C Comets;
  • ELINT etc Comets...

I'm seriously giving thought to 'de Havillandizing' the F7U Cutlass with numerous Sea Vixen features and putting it in RAF/RN or RCAF service somehow.
