I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Me too  ;D I have got to get me some

That would be a blast to fly around in.  Think of the WHIFF possibilities.  A squad of those dropped out of a Herc, fly some distance to the LZ.  Even strafe the place right before landing if the bad guys are there.   Or talk about dropping a covert team.  The Herc could (for obvious  political  reasons) stay well outside the borders of the enemy country and the team could fly in.  I doubt if these things are big enough to have much radar return or IR signature to worry about SAMS.  etc....

See now thats the kind of original thinking we need around here.... to get us out of our boring old rut. ;D

Oooold news! He crashed just last month, well sorta. One wing fell off, and he landed by parachute.

I thought about this before Ed, but my thinking was more around wingsuits.  They could seriously extend the range of HALO ops.  I would be suprised if Spec Ops units hadn't thought of it already.  'Personal Flying Wings' as the Jet Man type thing have been called are also a possibility.  Both would have their uses, the wingsuit would have less range, but would favour a covert insertion, whereas the PFW would have a higher noise level & radar signature but increased range.  Individuals researching both types are looking into ways of landing without a parachute too.

I've always thought they'd be perfect for Airborne units.  Gives you a lot more range, therefore a lot more options, I think I read it gave you an extra 10km, (or maybe miles).  You're dropship might be spotted, but then you've got a larger radius where you can land, makes it more difficult for the bad guys to work out where you'll be.  Either that or if the area's hot, your ship doesn't have to penetrate as far reducing the risk of you & your mates getting shot out of the sky before you get a chance to jump.
