Great work upnorth! The Tempest canopy looks much better; the last set of photos remind me of the Renard R.38.

I've never heard of that plane before. It and my Hurricane do seem to have a passing resemblance to each other.

Tonight will probably just be a PSR session around the new gun fairings and maybe a bit of cockpit painting so probably no pics for a few days.

I may put up the backstory soon though. I'm pretty comfortable with it now after a couple of edits and don't imagine I'll change it again.

That's looking awesome! I wonder what might have happened if the Hurricane had been further developed, like with the bubble and perhaps Griffon engines. Would the canvas aft end have been a problem? I have to imagine that had there been the resources, Hawker might have done something like a Mossy balsa aft end.

That's an ambitious project and it's looking great!

That's an ambitious project and it's looking great!

The Hurricane did fly with a Griffon early in the engines development, before all the bugs where ironed out. Omega resin do a kit, along with Hercules, Acsh-82 & DB-601 engined variants. The Napier Dagger was also proposed as a stop gap in case Merlin production levels couldn't be met.

Beat me to it Robert! Interestingly enough, there's a profile of the real blister canopy Hurricane. Not quite a true bubble top, but it's nearly there.

Well, to give you a bit of an insight into the construction of the bubble top Hurricane, you must bear in mind a couple of things about it:

1:
The bubble top Hurricanes were built primarily in Czechoslovakia, Poland and Romania and the bubble top was their innovation to the Hurricane design.

2:
Fabric construction on all but the control surfaces was completely ruled out by all three countries before they started production. Initially, the rear fusleage along with the vertical and horizonal stabilizers was laminated wood construction. In later variants, the fabric control surfaces were replaced with ones constructed of metal.

This is looking great so far.

The recent mods have made it look sleeker without losing its Hurricane character.

I have a similar project on the go, using the Airfix MkII, which retains the original fabric rear fuselage (and which probably won't be finished for several geological eons

) and your wooden rear fuselage makes a much bigger difference to the appearance than I would have thought. In fact, if mine is ever finished, I suspect that they'll look like two completely different aircraft.

I got the Milliput around the gun fairings sanded smooth tonight and I don't think more putty will be needed there.

Then I had to stop work because my girlfriend told me to start shopping around for a hotel in Budapest. We're planning a couple of weeks in Hungary this summer, a few days in Budapest and then out east to visit her brother and his family.

Anyway......

I have all of tomorrow free so I hope to have the cockpit in and the wings scribed and glued on.
