Thanks all.

Trip 7:
I think a resemblance to a Yak (or possibly a few other contemporary Soviet designs, like the MiG-3) was unavoidable due to the fact that the Hurricane's own lines have that sort of utilitarian look to them, granted not as severely so as actual Soviet designs, but you can still see it.

The Hurricane really was a workhorse in its design, while not unattractive, it did not possess the graceful lines of the Spitfire or, in my view, the Fury biplane that it was derived from. It put purpose ahead of presentation.

Part of the reason I chose the Yak-3 to bash with the Hurricane, was a general similarity in their lines. Perhaps one day I'll work this bash the other way and make a razor back Yak-3 using a Hurricane fuselage.

I initially did make a bit of a mistake when painting the spinner as I transposed the red and white fields.

It is interesting, but I would say inevitable, that two European countries would have the same roundel scheme. When you consider how many of the European countries have some combination of red, blue and white as their national colours, there really are only so many ways you can take the design and not come off looking like you ripped off one of the other guys.

I imagine you're right about the spinner being light purple when spinning. I was trying a few spinner designs to incorporate the Czech colours, but I didn't want anything that really looked like something too well known from the real world and I figured basing it on the actual pattern of the Czech flag might do the trick. I'm pretty happy with it myself.

Good decision regarding the canopy.  I think it manages to look Russian without losing that certain Hurricane-ness. ;D ;D

O.K. Folks, its  been a couple of weeks and its been mostly paint work.

Its inspired by the camo that the Avia B.35 wore and what the Avia B.135 might have worn had it gone into service. Still some fine tuning to do in the camo, but I still like how she's progressing, the gear wells will likely be painted aluminum.

As always all comments welcomed

There probably won't be any updates for the next couple of weeks as I'm going to Hungary for some holidays.

I do like that camo scheme!

You *WILL* post a pic of the completed model, I hope! Can't wait!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Thanks for the good comments. It will probably be later than my hoped for end of summer completion. (I'm in Hungary, well away from the build at the moment) and I'll be busier in August than I thought I'd be with work related things.

Anyway, I highly recommend Budapest as a place to visit if any of you are ever passing through Europe.

Just a bump here for those who have been following along.

The build is at a bit of a standstill as I came back from Hungary to more teaching work than I expected so I've barely had time to look at the Hurricane since I got back.

Will post an update as soon as I can.

Were money not so inextricably connected to work, I would agree with you completely. ;D

No pics today, but I did actually get a start on the decals.

So here's some new progress, I got the decals on and the vac form canopy cut and test fitted (still needs some fine sanding here and there)

Most of the decals are from an aftermarket sheet for Czechoslovak Spitfires made by Tally Ho! the regimental emblem comes from a sheet by extratech.

You've done an outstanding job on that three-tone camo, Kev and the squadron emblem is the icing on the cake! The more I see of this beautiful project, the more "right" that bubble canopy looks!
