Hi all!

Ok, in a fit of Mosquito fever I've just put the finishing touches on my NF.XIX/J.30, built as the late, lamented T.III RR299/G-ASKH. Hope you enjoy :).

BTW as this is an R/W build I didn't think it appropriate for the workbench thread, but mods you may move it as required.

We'll have none of that real-world rubbish around HERE!

Nice job, both the Spit and Mossie.

Do I detect two hand-painted R's in the serial numbers? If you want, measure the proper height of the "R"s in millimeters and I can send you some letter decal from my extensive stash for free. I assume its black lettering. You'd have to give me a mailing address, too.  I don't mind sending anything to New Zealand. I wish I could deliver it in person!

A LOOOOOONG time ago, when you had to chisel a model out of rock while avoiding the meat-eating dinosaurs, and you had to first find and kill a sable before you could make a paintbrush, I made a "bomber" Mosquito when none existed (well MAYBE the Frog bomber version existed, but I had no access to one). Way back when I was a mere lad, I didn't know the flat-screened Mossie was only for the fighter versions (from which I made my conversion). Anyway, here is my ancient Mossie from 1962, which is, sadly, part of a landfill somewhere.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Very cool! I'm looking to do a bomber in 1:72 soon, albeit with the perspex painted out and mock guns stuck on!

So was this with the old OLD Airfix kit?

And thanks for the offer! Yup, black. Any chance you may be able to supply more serials for my other 1:72 Mossie, and maybe my 1:48? I'll get measurements later tonight.

BTW really really love your builds! And you said you didn't have any more mossies!

Yes, the old gawdawful one.  The clear nose came from a B-17 (note the holes for the machine guns), and the side windows from some airliner. Paints are Humbrol tins brush-painted on. The "new" Airfix kit is really nice in comparison!!

I have the same new Airfix kit (unmade) that you made and compared letter size with what I had on hand in spare decals. Your letters, assuming they are the same size and style of the "MM650" that came on the Mossie decal sheet, are just a smidgeon shorter or taller than what I have. I don't think there was a specific size designated for particular aircraft (but I could be wrong), but even so, there was probably a lot of field diversion from specs, so the size shouldn't matter if you are close. So if you used mine, you would best use ALL "my" letters to keep the look consistent. So here's what I'll do: I will send you my entire decal sheet, you pick what you want, then send the rest back to me! You can take 1/48-size ones, too. I do have another similar sheet here at home, so don't worry that you will be depleting my stock.

Well, I have only the picture. It was a REALLY sad day that when I made a major move I had to discard dozens of old builds. I took them to the dump, and some eager dump workers saved a few for their kids. Many of the kits discarded were bagged Airfix and Frog builds that I took home in my suitcase from Britain on a family visit in 1962.

I'm going to be gone the next few days, but if you e-mail me and give me your mailing address, I can pop the decals in the mail next week . You should get the decals by Christmas!

I do have another whiff that uses Mossie wings and nacelles (pointy spinners from a P-38 give it a different look), but doesn't look like a Mossie.
