Captain Canada

Hi all !

Had a great day yesterday. The boy and I got to sneak away alone to an airshow. Some interesting times !

The flying display was to start at 1:30 with the CDN Forces Skyhawk Para Team. Their ride took off.....

And returned immediately.

Seems that flock of Seagulls it took off thru were impeding the pilots vision !

It's always nice to hear the National Anthem this way.....

Then we were treated to a rare sight.....a large R/C replica Avro Arrow !

Coming in to land....

Getting closer.....

Closer.....

Time to duck and cover ! I dropped the camera, grabbed the boy by the T-shirt and spun him around....he said I yelled " get down  ! "

And then 'whamo !'

She smoked the tail of the Harvard ! The Arrow blew into bits, with wreckage everywhere. Lucky for us, the snowfence stopped the main part of the fuselage from injuring the boy....it bounced off the fence right in front of him. Scary moment, the crowd was stunned.

What a shame....

Here you can see the damage to the Harvard. Notice the elevator where it first hit, then the holes in the tail ! Sadly, the damage stopped the Harvard from flying, and it was wheeled away for repairs.

Here she was in happier times...

Moth....

Gene Soucy is always a treat with the old 'Cat.....

As always, there's Tutors hidden all over the place....

I love the old Lab, and never miss an oporunity to snag a few pics. Got myself some nice detail pics of the searchlight this time as well.

A cool looking Hornet nose in the hangar.....looks kinda Golden Centennair-ish !

A nice flying 104 model

Griffons are always a treat. Well, any chopper is, for that matter !

The flying display was a little mundane, low cloud, T-storms, and not enough military acts. Especially at the birthplace of the RCAF.

Hornet demo.....no sun made for bad pics.

The interesting part ? The display was flown by a husband and wife team !

Best part of the air display was this beauty. It amazes me, the awe, respect, pride...all the emotions you feel when you see one of these fly by.......

Lots to do and see on the ground as well.

Just love the old APCs.....

The old forlorn CF-5 at the Radiation Training copmound....

But the highlight of the day was definately time spent with the wee man. We rode our bikes all over that base. Showed him all the spots I played at as a kid.....here he is at Mosquito Pond. Where we used to catch turtles and fish when I was his age......what a great day.

And you didnt even offer to take the Arrow parts? A bit of glue, PSR, and you would have a great whiff!

On a more serious note, the netting in front of the spectators looks like a good idea. In Denmark, they just put up an, uhm, string...

That's the one that flew over my car last Monday. Close call with that Arrow, could have caused serious injury or worse. Would have liked to have got up there but the wife had already bought tickets for Walking With Dinosaurs at the ACC. Great show but no pics.

Thanks guys. It was indeed a great day......my boy did manage to grab one little piece of the Arrow. The MPs were running around with their guns, chests all puffed up, acting like it was a Taliban attack, so we couldn't scoop up any good bits. The good news for him, tho, is that they were already working on a jet powered example.

Looks like a very intresting day Captain. Glad you and the boy weren't hit by the Arrow. Could have been serious, judging from the damage to the Harvard.

I know what you mean about the spirfire feelings. Such a great sight and lots of history.
