The AH56 had a pusher prop at the tail.  The complex rotorhead assembly let it down but by the time it was axed, Lockheed had eliminated most of the bugs.

I thought it was supposed to be simpler than a regular helicopter rotor system.

btw, at least one pilot was killed when the rotor hit a resonant frequency, causing the blades to deflect too much and hit the cockpit.

For other Rotodyne fans, this month's 'Aeroplane Magazine', with a gorgeous BOAC VC10 on the cover, features the 'dyne in their 'Database' feature.

I haven't read it all yet, but it looks pretty good, only marred by the lack of a drawing of the Rotodyne Z which they mention at some length.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks for the heads up Kit, I'll get a copy from Smith's tomorrow.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

And me too.  Thanks, Kit.

It's a very good issue all round, features on 70 years of Farnboough, Tim Davies' story, the first man to own a private Spitfire in the UK and the story of how the B-25s destined for the 'Hanover Street' film crossed the Atlantic.

£4.60 well spent this month.

I might have to go and read that in the newsagent...

...when it gets here next month.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

You could get the digital version.

Thanks Jon but i've fallen for that trick before.  They let you think that you are getting a magazine to download but they only let you look at it using their reader.

Ah, I use the Pocketmags app on my 12.7" iPad Pro so it's not an issue.

What I really like is that I can zoom in on drawings and stuff I like,
i.e. drawings in the RAF Secret Jets bookazine, and take a hi-res
screenshot.
;D

I like to have a PDF of my very own to have and to hold.

I'm thinking of finally building my improved Rotodyne for the Whirlybirds, Flappers and Ekranoplan GB.  I have the major parts now and just have to work through some details in my head.

Why didn't I think of that, although I did attempt to add tilt rotors to the Airfix Jolly Green Giant helicopter and the twin fin tail. The hump on the new wing of the Osprey caused a lot of problems for me and the height of those sponsors for the main landing gear as they are roughly the same size as the fuel tank on the CH-47 Chinook so you might find that a few windows are covered by them. Unless you use the original wing from the Airfix or Revell kits and add the tilting mechanism to the wingtip and use the Chinook landing gear as an alternative or simply glue the landing gear to the underside of the fuselage.
Then there's the problem of the new rotors ,you may find them a bit too long, I chopped mine down to fit.In hindsight a ruler or a tape measure is a better method.
Doable
As I have a pair of tilt engines from a Boeing V-22 Osprey and I did have  the intention of improving the Ravenclaw as the prices of the Airfix kit has risen this might be a better option for me. I can use the parts for my other builds.
Something like this.

It's not quite finished as I have run out of filler/puty but it uses the original Airfix Rotodyne wings. I need to fill in the gap in the roof.

Gap in the roo covered by the Sanger 1/72 Avro Lincoln  bomb bay. The wheels from the Chinook come in very handy.

There's a good chance it would have been quieter than the original 'dyne too, but that wouldn't have been difficult..............

Was it really that noisy ? I've read it was, but never heard one, or if I did can't remember, but then I was partially deaf (and am again) in one ear.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
