ive recently got my hands on an extra Gloster Gladiator Mk.I, and i had this dream recently, wher i saw one in USAAC Blue/yellow colors. ive been roughing a profile on it and i couldnt believe how good it loks in that color scheme.

im definatly going to make a model of this

also, ive been playing arround with the idea of a RR merlin powered variant.

Ah, that would be the rare wingless Gladiator, then! ;D

I transplanted a Peregrine with a belly radiator onto a Gladiator airframe some time ago - worked well and (still) looks good.

Not certain about a bigger/heavier Merlin, though.

That would be good to see Nils

Idea for a Gladiator wif that I've toyed with occasionally is for a parasol winged version. Don't know if you could simply get away with removing the lower wing or you'd have to do more extensive work to the upper one though ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Surely it would have to be either larger or more efficient in order to generate the same amount of lift?

That's why whenever I've thought about it, it's only been for a second or two. I suppose I could compare the upper wing in the Airfix kit to the parasol wing from one of the PZL's in the stash ?

Nils - a few years ago I posted up a Kestrel Gladiator III (can't find the link yet!), using the front end of Ye Olde Airfix Defiant, so I guess it was sort of a Merlin Gladiator.

For quite some time I have been thinking of a floatplane Gladiator.
Single/Central float with  small outriggers.
Finnish airforce.
All I need is a suitable donnor for the floats!

Replace the Mercury with a Pegasus (or if you want to go wild, a Hercules)!!

Nah! Go REALLY wild and bolt a Centaurus on there.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The Farley Fairy Penguin had a Hercules.

While the Hercules has twice the power of the Mercury it also had twice the weight so there are CoG issues to address.

Found it.  One of my favourites.

I've sometimes wondered about using a Gladiator as the basis for a monoplane similar to the F5/34.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I like that idea. Something Japanese would probably work as the float donator ?
