Hey, You go too far! :o
Yak-130 has tail plane, not canard

Sorry, but the British Secret Projects book on fighters shows a plane named the P.96F, looking awefully similar to the Yak-130 and MiG-LFI. Its on page 132 and 134  Yes, the one with "normal" layout

Think I know what happened guys.  Carlos, your pic looks more like the P.106, it's a bit smaller than the S-37, but the general configuration has definately been copied. ;)

Anyway, happy accident, Thomas, the Yak-130 is also definately a copy of the P.96!

:drink:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Sorry to be a stick in the mud Carlos but rule 1 states that it must be of any western built subject.

As the BAe P.96 was never actually built, then technically it doesn't comply. The design is definetly a copy no doubt.

The soviet project that looks like an F-16 is acceptable because the F-16 was built and is recognisable.

Hope this clarifies things.

Cheers

No answer on the start date being truely fixed, Sisko?  I can wait, I have my IRIAF Super Alicat to finish anyways, but that's almost done so I was wondering myself if I can get a jumpstart on the idea.

Well the start date is the 1st of Feb.

But like everything it doesn't hurt to get everything prepared and ready. Do some test fitting the odd cut here and there and so on and so forth.

So when Feb 1st  comes around you can all jump out of the gates like the mad Whiffers that you are!

Pudding is half way to the first turn before we had to call him back!

Hehe, depends. The Canard P.96 looks like the Gripen, and the conventional P.96F looks like the Alenia Aermacchi M346 ;-)

Then they would be perfect candidates for the "prototype or paper napkin aircraft that look like aircraft that were actually built" group build.  ;D

Da commerade, someone must portect the mother land until the start date! Is traditional soviet cunning to ignore all dates, give decadent west big suprise!
(Also if I stop now I'll run out of steam and it'll never get finished... what with all the GBs going on and the school holidays having but one more week to run[for teachers anyway{of which I am on}] I'm trying to cram as much in as I can)

And that, gentlemen, is a new personal record - I've now used all but one type of bracket in a single sentence. Now you know why I teach English!

Another idea: Shenyang J-11. I got this info in http://www.secretprojects.co.uk

You cannot deny that it is a Mirage-F1. IMO, a beautiful! plane

I might suggest an addendum to the rules, that Soviet Satellites are allowed for markings in this GB, including Alt-History ones such as the British People's Republic.  Just a thought, it would make to allow for additional markings thoughts for some of our comrades.
So, is this addendum accepted ? If yes, is Ji-11 accepted ?

You can use Soviet satellite state markings. So anybody in the Soviet block real or imagined.

After all it would not be long before the others benifited from the Soviet ill gotten gains.

As for the Ji-11 being a look alike for the Mirage go ahead It's a copy of an actual aircraft.
So bash the hell out of that Mirage kit!

However the Chinese aren't Soviet so you would have to put it in Soviet or Soviet satellite state markings.

After all the group build is called Sovietise it not Chinese it.

Hope this clears things up.

Well, that might not be so true if you go for a whiff of Kruschev not being an idiot and the Sino-Soviet war never happening.  That would have continued the trend of cooperation and close ties between the Chinese and Soviets, damaged by Kruschev and only recently starting to be repaired.  You could always go for a slight degree of modification to the Chinese markings to show the closer ties to Russia, or perhaps have Manchuria break away and join the Soviets, as if I recall Shenyang is in the North by the Korean border.  Soviet-Satellite Manchuria?  Interesting thoughts there.

Satellites gives us options on camo and other such concepts as well, a little more beautiful artistic license.

Fair point. But for the sake of this build lets keep the Chinese out of it.

We have enough real world western subjects land, sea and air that can be sovietised and put into service with Soviet and Soviet block countries to cover every taste.

The final rules are below. :-

1. Take any kit of a western built subject and make it look like it is a Soviet built copy.

2. It can be land sea air, and in any scale it doesn't matter. As long as it looks Soviet.

3. Kitbash and scratchbuilt to your hearts content. What every it takes to make that boring F-16 into something tractor like.

4. The kit can be finished in Soviet or Soviet block markings and schemes.

5. The build will go for around 3 months. (due to the fact that kitbashing and scratchbuilding are involved it may get extended)

6. Finished posts will be displayed in the usual manner and we will pick a first and second place which will get a kit from my stash.

Here endeth the rules
