I think that might make an interesting opposite group build, the Westernize it group build.  There's so much potential in all the things in the West Bloc to turn Soviet, man.

Now here's an interesting question.  We can Sovietize an existing Western airframe, how about converting a Soviet machine to closely resemble a Western design?  For example modifying a Mig-29 or to look more like the F-18?

Yeah, that'd be a cool idea!

See how close you could get a MiG-19 to look like an F-100.

Or pick up one of those Trumpeter 1/144 IL-76 transports and try to get it looking like the love child of a C-5 and a C-141.

Or you could modify RoG's 1/144 AN-124 Ruslan to a T-tail configuration to get it looking like a C-5.

(Meant light-heartedly, meant in jest, and meant in all seriousness too):

Having witnessed the tensions on ARC over the F-16 through the last few years, it would feel good to take a Tamiya F-16C and 'Sovietize' it with an ogival wing, radome, and revised tail in the spirit of the Su-27 early prototypes.   Wing strakes may need to be added as well.   Then, display it in one of the accuracy threads...........            But at the current asking price......it'll remain in idea form only.

Genossen! Comrades! Glorious soldiers of the motherland!

Today is a glorious day for our motherland!
With this GB we shall wipe the western capitalist dogs from the skies! And we shall not only do it with our superior designs, but we shall prove that our pilots flying their useless designs, will win anyhow!

May we toast with a tanker of voka!

Politics notwithstanding, that is one of THE best National Anthems about. The Red Army Choir version is even better.

Does Russia still use it, or do they have a new one?

Yes, it is quite inspiring and uplifting.  Deutschlandlied is also good, when it comes to being motivational.

As to your second point, Kit, yes - they do still use it, albeit with different words I believe, but the tune is still the same.  Much like how Germany still uses the Deutschlandlied, just without the first verse.  The only time the Russians, since 1944, have not used at the least the base theme of Soyuz Neruskimi Republik, was during the 90's, courtesy of Yeltsin, but Putin reinstated it as the anthem.

Yes, the Soviet/Russian national anthem is a messy thing. Seems like every president changed it! During the soviet era, it was mostly the anthem we know today, but modified every now and then.

Before 1944, they used The Internationale. It was modified in 1953 to not include Stalin. Up until 1977 they had no lyrics. From 1977 to 1991 they played it with lyrics, but without mention of Stalin and WWII. From 1991 to 2000 they had The Patriotic Song. In 2000 Putin replaced it with the anthem we all love!

I will be doing a Soviet Navy Sea Harrier

Im also pondering on the possibility of doing an airliner. Perhaps an Aeroflot Il-9 (DC-9) or Yak-111 (BAC 1-11). Now i just need the DC-9

Skywave makes sets in 1/700 of Soviet planes in plastic and metal, many of which which I used in an earlier group build to "miniaturize" models other people built and place them on the deck of a Soviet Orel-type carrier I cobbled together out of a Trumpeter Kuznetsov and an Aoshima Kiev. White Ensign Models also has a line of 1/700 aircraft, in resin, and Aoshima make sets of USN, IJN, RN, and Soviet aircraft.

I have a Revell Graf Zeppelin (the carrier) I plan to do as a Soviet version someday.

Soviet airships why not.

The aircraft carrier, not the airship. The Soviets got hold of it post WW2, but didn't do anything with it.
Some time ago someone here did a group of Rodina aircraft for the carrier. I lost the original article, but kept the images. I'm still deciding if I want to use them, or make up my own history.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

What could have become of the Canberra had the Soviets reverse engineered it, then changed it again and again and again?
