Thought i would join in this one by attempting this :-

http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,17329.0.html

Started last Sunday with an E-3F kit as a basis together with a scrap Victor kit.Shortened the fuselage, filled in the nose and tail with sprap and milliput then bulked out to get the correct diameter for the HP111 by using 3.2mm plastic strip as a skin over the kit fuselage.

Progress as of today:-

So, Mr. Baker, just couldn't build something straight from the box and paint it differently then....

Good for you

Impresssive!
Interesting technique for increasing the fuselage diameter. I may have to borrow that...

Partly why i decided to post it up as a potential method of creating other builds
Had thought about skinning before, but by cutting own stips from sheets of card, so to spot the strip in extra deep thickness and widths just rekindled the idea about a month ago so decided to take the plunge

Lots to do yet but the basic fuselage shape is now there, the next major step being the wing to fuselage join

Realizing you probably get this all the time but I've really got to say "this is incredible"!!!

I dont recall Wooksta doing a Phantom profile Terry, the nearest to it was possing with his fist about to come down on one !!

"Bugger!  Better get me skates on with the V1000.  Too busy poncing around with Mosquitoes."

Yeap i was wondering about that,  no doubts you would finish it but more likely a done with a spurt in October than your planned build during the year. If you are cloning it then you really need to get your basics done in the next month or so to give you time to start building the parts you have just produced

I actually started the project after coming up with the idea and tried explaining it Overkiller. He then went pale (more due to the size of the 1/72 scale plans i fear as i think he was hoping its was more herc size than Belfast size) so i thought i had best do an example to show how the concept works and how it could be applied elsewhere.

Progress wise with the HP-111 i'm currently on cleaning up the fuselage, refining the shape and smoothing out the surface before some of the features can be scribed in. I'll try and focus on the wings and tail this week or so to get all the basic components done before working out how it all goes together (The wing to fuselage join being the most interesting one to get correct !!)

Got the wing to fuselage joint sorted last night so the basic Airframe is now looking about right. Just need to adust the revised tail to fit the fuselage and sort out the wing tip tanks for the outer wings and the model should basically then look like the HP-111. Obviously lots of detail stuff to sort out yet but at least it feels like a HP-111 now.

(will try and do some update pics tonight)

You know... when I read the title of this thread all I could think of was variations of the Phantom that made it look silly. This is a cool build and I am again impressed with the skills of the builders on this site.
Getting back into modeling

Pics as promissed

Still to bridge the gap between fin and fuselage, plus sort out the wing tanks before fitting the outer wings, but feels like progress is being made.

She's a tubby girl! Great work so far Geoff, nice job on the skining.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Could never do this - would go mad with all that PSR.  Kudos to you.
