I know I said at the end of the Natter that I would be going back to my old Croat 109G-10 build, but the thought of itching another 15+ figures........
Anyways I`ve decided to go back to some proper PSR modeling and commenced to build another 109 for the collection. On Ebah some time ago I got a 190 & a 109 by Otaki for the princely sum of £5GB including p+p with the intent of using them for this conversion. So far so good, but I`m stuck on the canopy....zero?...

Now that I have all these images in 1 group obviously the plan view is at odds with the pics.

Any input to this outthere?

EDIT

IDIOT  should have realised the photos are of the V21 with a BMW 139 engine while the plan IS the 109 with a BMW 801

Maybe a Me-262 with some rescribing of frames?

BTW, where did you get the plan drawing?

Greg

Seems like the only significant difference is that one bit on the lower rear sides.  The Zero canopy could work by polishing the canopy and either rescribing (yuck) or masking/painting the supports.  Or perhaps justify the difference as a production vs. prototype thing. . .

matrixone

A canopy from an Otaki Ki-100 might be a close match and reduce the amount of rework needed.

Sorry meant to post this with last should be able to grab from here if not email me and I`ll send the article if you like

Yeah I knew of the kit, but read somewhere of a bad build review, so if I`s gonna be slappin` filler I`d rather spend less (and proberbly make up the difference in filler and sandpaper).

Noxious, Matrixone, etal
A reasonable start is all thats required as I`ll prob cut & shut, sand & fill to get the required shape for a thrust mould.

But thanks All for the input and I will stick some pics when I gets me camera back.

Well as promised heres a pic of where I`m at.

My son brought the camera back, turned it on set to stun, macro, no flash . Pointed at model and batteries depleted! And he`s left the charger at home!!. Any way managed this just so you know what I`m talking about.

Hi there Gary,
just a thought re the canopy ,seeing as you have some pretty good drawings at hand try carving a master out of styrene or balsa and 'smash' forming a canopy. any clear acetate found in packaging will do. fun, cheap and easy  Steve.

Hi Steve
Yeah the `smash` or as I call it thrust mould is the way I was going, but I`m getting old fat an lazy so was hopeing for a kitbit to chop to save work.

Looks great so far Gary, I'm not that big into Luftwaffe aircraft so this is a machine I never knew existed.  Makes quite a difference to the '109.  What kind of scheme you going for?  Radial engine might suit a carrier based bird.

Canopie wise I think you'll struggle, but a Typhoon or Ki-43 might give you a reasonable match?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Hiya Mossie,
Yeah I thought navalised with that big radial, maybe one wing folded or sumink but not positive yet, I may go factual (wash my mouth). As to the canopy I`ve been looking at the mould I made for the Me262`s Mistel and Wasserflugzeug and this conversion item has further conversion potential
Building this makes me think a bit about the 109. The V21 flew in the late 30`s and the 109X was around and apparently flying in 1940.
A lot of allied pilots seem to think that the 109 was cramped and obviously theres a lot more room in this wider airframe.
All round vision bubble hood with sliding canopy, must have been easier to get out of than the side swinging one and the clearer vision Erla hood never appeared until late in the war.
Wider track undercart, an easing of the problems with the standard narrow tracked one?
A radial engine surely a simpler option than an inline with all its cooling/radiators intake compressors etc

I know history gives us the story that Germany was winning at this time and the higher command decreed that further developement in all arms was unneccessary and of the later problems this gave the Lufwaffe towards the end, but surely developement cost on this can`t have been that much. Still it`s that lack of foresight which helped the allies win in the end.

Will post progress as it happens
