Radish

Everything is ready for the decals....it's been like that for a week, but families have a way of getting in the way....
While obliterating a garden feature today and mowing the lawn, weeding, etc.......I thought Lee's idea of a Royal Navy one was attractive, and I have lots of decals.
OK, I'll go outside and continue work, then finally decide tonight so I can apply the decals later.
It'll be all done for Sunday at AVON though, complete with text which will be a late invention.

Right then, the decals are ON

US Navy, China 1955?, VFA-247 "Wildcats".

The source was "Commies On The Run", by Major John Cuffley, USN Retired.
The "inspiration" and title of the diorama/model is "China In Your Hand" by T'Pau. Saw them ages ago (10 years??) supporting Quo at the NEC.

Pictures?
Possibly ;D

Sounds Good!

I built at least 3 of the Airfix Banshees back when I was in my early teens, one was even my first attempt at cutting bits off a kit when I cut off the nose to do the Phote Recce version. IIRC it was a nice little kit.

Tempted to hunt down a Banshee or two as having fingered through that new book "US Naval Air Superiority: Development of Shipborne Fighters 1943-1962" I fancy trying the swept wing Banshee proposal, the F-2H-5.

Duncan

I've also been toying with the idea of a swept-wing Banjo myself.  Did you have any other sources than the one quoted?  I've had little luck so far on Google . . .

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between a Goodyear Banshee and the McDonnell version?

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

^^^^^^^^... and the pieces of cloth
BTW: how are they done?
Will die without understanding this world.

The difference between the McDonnell build and the Goodyear is due to the fact that the old Hawk/Testors kit is a little short in the fuselage (I'm slowly building a corrected version), so I just added some panels to the fuselage spine and conduits, etc..
The cloth covers on the intekes hide the open see through aspect of the kit, and are simple made by cutting a square of tissue paper, screwing it up tight and then re-opening it all (adds the creases) before a soaking in white glue/water solution (about 50/50). Gently lay the tissue in place and adjust with cocktail sticks, tweezers, etc. Leave to dry and after painting lightly drybrush.

Thanks for the comments.
