Greg,
I would modify the land mount for the quad 20mm to look more like a ship mount.  Easiest way would be to just cut off the 3 support legs and mount the rest to the deck.  I would also keep it centered or mount another set alla PT boat .50s.

Build is looking sweet.
Are you going to bring it up for Shocon?

Thanks Jschmus, and Philp: where should I cut off the legs?  The reason I was thinking of it being off the centerline is of the weight of the starboard side. Work in progress, no ?  I appreciate all of the feedback !!

Hi Greg,
here is the 20mm flakvierling on a fixed mount:

The easiest way is to cut away everything away from the circular center part of the trailer mount.

Also there is no problem with mounting the weapon off of the center line as long as the overall vessel equipment weights are balanced athwartships.

The USN Mark 3 Sea Specter and Mark 4 patrol boats can have an asymmetrical armament fit.

Cheers, Jon

As a follow up to what Jon just provided.  The gun mount is normally a short cylinder in shape, situated a foot or so above the deck.  The attached images of the 40mm Bofors represent the most common type of mount base for shipboard use.  The last image in the attached set shows an alternative mount base that was used aboard smaller PT boats where the wood hulls would prevent attachment of the circular metal base to the deck.  The Bofors would weigh approximately the same as your 20mm FlaKvierling.

Sweet !  Using your information, I scratched up a quick circular foot. I am going to add on foot steps and decking...I wanted the gun to be a little higher than normal (small boat).
Great information!!!!!!!

That gun really looks the business, Mr Cthulhu! What kind of pasta did you use for the barrels? ;)

You've got another blue-ribbon winner in the making!

Oh great, so now I've got total "styrene envy" of you as well, Greg.  Nice acquisition.
The boat is ridiculously good, btw.  I've got to back-track and see exactly how the deckguns came into existence.  This is all sooooooo way beyond me!

So, what will you name it?

Since its apparently a Danish design, with the Danish navy, i would suggest HDMS Freja. Thats a name that is rarely used, but is very fitting

I just keep watching in admiration of this one.............

Looking killer Greg! I've got no doubts this baby will sail all the way to the winner's circle! The gun is great, even if I can't figure out the code just yet. Each update on this project is better than an episode of "Victory at Sea".
