I'm building a Concorde bomber version with a date of 1977 and am wondering what sort of RAF cammo to put her in ?

My own preferance is for a temperate scheme as the Vulcan but not sure what year that went to wrap around, and i'm also at a loss for what style of roundels the aircraft should carry?

IIRC Around that time is when the V-force went to low-level mission profiles so the standard gray/green cammo on the top & sides with white unders would work, think the roundles were still the 3 color type. The Vulcans went to the wrap shortly after the Falklands.

the wrap around camoflauge was on vulcans attending red flag exercises before being applied after the fauklands.

I would say it depends on the role.  The Vulcans went camo because of the switch to low-level ops.  A Concorde bomber would be unlikely to go to that mission, more likely in '77 as a high-speed, high-alt missile platform, in which case either the old white with anti-flash or low-viz markings, or an alternate high-alt scheme such as hemp or PRU blue. 

It would look cool in camo, but a Bombcorde is unlikely to find itself needing to blend with terrain.

Got to agree, down low the Concorde would probably suck back so much fuel that it wouldn't get far enough to be effective. Let it use the skills it has - speed and altitude!

Hi Tim,

I think the general consensus is to do the all white or white/silver scheme.  I like the all white or the PRU blue scheme for a high altitude aircraft with subdued markings.  Would the silver represent a paint finish or NMF on the Concorde? 

Now for something really different, how about finding a suitable source for the giant bomb/fuel pod from the B-58 Hustler and attach that to the underside of your Bombcorde?  It would be different and a great way to use one of those awkward looking things for something besides taking up space in the spare parts bin...

I built a Bombcorde B1 "Vengence" (as i named it) for the Falklands GB last year, I painted it in a Dark grey over light grey scheme as in my What if world there was only one Bombcorde Sqn and its members applied atypical camo to express their indiviulaity.

I agree with whats been said about the Bombcorde not requiring terrain style camo, I think it would have been used for high altitude and high speed style missions. Go with something different than what may have been around at the time on Vulcans. Go with PRU blue I say! Although white would also be cool, i just figure you'd want it to look more "military" than its civilian counterpart, just my opnion.

Which kit are you planning on doing and what scale? Any external weapons load?

the kit i've got is the 1/72 airfix and i've already converted it to a blue steel carrier.

My premis is that blue steel lasted longer and was updated, with evetone's advice i'm going with something high altitude, not saying what but will post pictures when ready.

That's most interesting, I had no idea that the Concord folks were doing joint projects with Sukhoi back in the late 60s.
