Just making it official by posting in the Profiles Tribute thread.  Here's a preview of upcoming attraction...

The obligatory pre-build box photo...

Here's Rallymodeler's original Wheat for Planes thread that provided the inspiration - http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,8817.0/highlight,wheat+for+planes.html  BTW, does anyone know what a Wendigo is?

A progress update; today was a day-off for me and I got quite a bit of building done.  The primary assembly is complete – wings & fuselage, nose-to-tail.

Some notes on the ESCI/Ertl 1/48 MiG-27 kit: In a word it sucks!  :banghead: I could live with the rest of the kit but the nose is absolutely egregious - ESCI's research on this aircraft (particularly the nose) was severely lacking.  The nose on this kit is molded separate from the rest of the fuselage.  If Italeri has done a revised nose for it's reboxing I'd say get it but if not I'd say stay away.  This kit is begging for resin upgrades & other aftermarket goodies – or better yet maybe Trumpeter, Revell-Monogram, Hasegawa... can do a whole new kit of the MiG-23/27 family.  For now, I'll do my best to make a silk purse out of this sow's ear!

A wendigo is a creature out of Algonquin legend.  Per Wikipedia, the wendigo is "a mythical creature appearing in the mythology of the Algonquin people. It is a malevolent cannibalistic spirit into which humans could transform, or which could possess humans".  Apparently the legend was used to teach the cultural taboo against cannibalism, which could supposedly turn someone into a wendigo.

Ick!  OK, I'll have to come up with some sort of cute & fuzzy NZ-related name - maybe lil' Tuatara, baby Kiwi, widdle Moa?

Get you some Tex
Yeah, I've got some I just don't know what - hopefully it resembles a MiG-27 when I'm done!  :banghead:  :drink:

On the nose, I'm trying to devise the most effective way (within my poor modelling abilities) to build up her nose into something more 'realistic.'  Right now, I've got either 1. laminating layers of Bex's Wooden Lolly SticksTM patent pending, 2. laminating layers of plastic card, 3. using parts from the discarded kit pile, 4. attempting some sort of resin nose or 5. some combination of the afore mentioned ideas.

My recommendation - save the Wendigo name for something scary and Canadian.

Zac's in charge of coming up with a name that's suitable bellicose (but not too scary) yet uniquely Kiwi!  Hopefully, you like the end product.

Got an update pic...

Super-secret stuff going on behind the Post-itTM notes.  I've got to get a fresh tube of putty in the near future!

Bryan's supersecretpostit nose is indeed quite the change from the "duck" nose usually seen on the MiG-27 series :P

Seriously tho its looking good :) I for one can't wait to see her in her colours!

Well, I want to give everyone some update pics - some I'm ditching the Post-it TM notes.  As predicted, the nose of the ESCI 1/48 MiG-27 required a great deal of work!  But, I've made some progress using a combination of Bex's Wooden Lolly Sticks TM, plastic card & putty AND a whole-lotta Putty-Sand-Repeat.

On to the pics...
First, nose built up with Bex's Wooden Lolly Sticks TM.

Second, a pile of putty & some strategically placed plastic card.

Third, PSR

Now on to preparations for TS/Hurricane Fay...  :o
