Hmmm, I only have a hundred or so kits. Not nearly enough to take on this kind of wiffery

I know that you've since done away with this configuration, but does anyone else see a resemblance to the Hyperion-class from Babylon 5?

I can see where you're coming from, yes.

Looks really cool, AD - looking forward to more pictures! :)

The art of being truly original in our creations is very hard to achieve. Every day we are subconsiously influenced by things we see around us, and if you happen to see somthing your interested in then your sunk!.
You see Hyperion class from B5
I see skydiver from UFO
They see etc etc ,

What I look for in a scifi/fantasy build is a collection of random shapes assembled in an interesting combination and finished in a suitable colour. Any reference to what I know, see or imagine it to resemble is irrelevant, and when your trying to be different and somone comes along and suddenly its the STTNG explorer class pollocks flying upside down and backwards can be really annoying.

EDIT
My appologies, rant over. It`s just somthing that bugs me.

Heck everything is derivitive(or however you spell that) My new space fighter sort of looks like a Hammerhead from Space Above and Beyond .Except the engines are in a different place and the nose is different, and I have never seen an episode( I am about to rectify that) ;D I'm just about to build a fighter which will look a lot like one of the classic Terran Trade Authority ships ,which looks oh, like a Saab Drakken  there are only so many shapes ;D

It's been a busy week with work and back-to-school for the oldest young 'un, but I managed to get a bit more done tonight.  I'll try to get some pics up later, but not much new to show really, just fairing bits in and closing up various holes and gaps.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I've had a few comments that it looks like something from Aliens.  To me it doenst look as much like the Sulaco as some think, but I DO think the long curved forward hull look like the head of an alien, especially in the satin finish that the black plastic has after a lot of sanding.  Thinking of a paint scheme for this one is going to be tough!

Nice little news item today to go along with this build and all the other Sci-fi projects that seem to have taken us over for a little summer madness.

Tonight's construction has mainly involved gluing on various panels and conduits, etc, as well as consturcting new shield manipulators.  These were the tiny 1/350 Greyhound wings attached to styrene rod running through the F-14 horisontal stab. mounting holes on the original idea.  With the model growing quite a bit in size from the original vision those little wings were too small.  I didnt want to go with aerodynamic parts from another kit, since I want to avoid any hint of aerodynamics, so I built new manipulators from styrene stock and strip.  The main body of the panels is made from Evergreen with some sort of board design, giving it a nice textured effect that will come out nicely on the finished model with a little wash.

The engines keep changing form too, with some parts from a Monogram F-15C now added inside the main engine bell.

I'm at work all day tomorrow, but I'll try to get pics up tomorrow night.

Bit late to the party Nick, but heres my opinions.  I really like the idea of a sail, but I think it should be *much* bigger, and probably on the forward fuselage.  Right now it just looks like a rudder stuck on there.  I like the suggestion to mount it underneath as well, because it takes you furter away from what the eye expects to see.

Are you leaving the fronts of the engine pods as is?  Again, right now they look a little too much like F-14 engine pods and could do with a little disguising IMO.
