Beoing 377 Stratocruiser, Aden Airlines, 1530hrs 21st July 1967 at Khormaksar

Aden Airlines Beoing Stratocruiser G-akgh  was destroyed 1530hrs 21st July 1967 at Khormaksar, Aden.

The Straocruiser had been quarantined (pushed out of the hangar and parked away from buildings) after an engine change as it was suspected that a bomb had been placed aboard while the aircraft was hangared. True, the plane exploded and was destroyed in the ensuing fire which quickly engulfed the aircraft. A thick, black pall of smoke could be seen from miles around.

Remains of the day. The once majestic Beoing lies a twisted heap on the tarmac at Khormaksar, only the tail section and outer starboard engine surviving the inferno, leaving little for souvenir hunters.

well mate , Mrs darkmaster allows me 5 shelves amd the top of the wardrobe, and it's amazing how with a little creativity you can get loads onto this space. Hiowever it is at the stage where i am putting away kits into long term kit storage in the loft, awaiting that glourious day when the children leave .....20+ years away now though  :drink:   and counting down

Tim,

More to the point, how do you build the things so damn fast?

It's around one a day these days, and it's not as if they're thrown together either, you've done some seriously good modelling there, not to mention the thinking time.

LOVE that Strat, really looks the part.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Not sure mate, its not that fast I've had a look and i have done 44 kits this year so far which is less than last year.
At the moment I'm enjoying the airlines that they are just flying together ( sorry ) and i am finding it so easy to do them....and I'm blaming you for encouraging me with them  ;D  ;D  ;D.

As you mention thinking time i really don't know where that comes in, you have to remember where i work.....kits around me all day and a shop full of people whom like modelling to bounce ideas off, i have more ideas than time  ;D  ;D  ;D and as one friend said my imagination is not so much wild as feral

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

QuoteLufthansa Comet! Now!

Sorry mate , that one will not happen. It the Empires Twighlight there is no united West Germany its still in 3 zones with the UK administered zone  based upon Hamburg. The UK operates the " Queens German Legion" for Germans whom want a military life, its not beyond the realms of possibility that a number of " German " airlines exsist , i just haven't given it any thought as yet.

Have you considered the possibility of writing the Empire's Twilight into a novel type format, using model photos as illustrations? From what I've read so far it would make a great book. Fantastic builds by the way!

wow eeerrrm don't know what to say.........I mean i would love to but time and skills are against me, I unfortunatly as a family man have limited time to put to hobbies and with modelling and restoring the Hunter i cannot shoehorn any more in without getting divorced and as much as i may moan i don't want to .

Maybe on day when i can train myself to be more focused and stop fliting from idea to ianother, which is why i like to make models it's one idea at a time, though all within a theme.

The Stratocruiser looks really good - nice one!

Is that the Minicraft 1/144th kit? If so, what's it like to build?

It is mate , went together really nicely no vices at all. according to one of the airline forums it needs work accuracy wise but hey you all recognised it so can't be that bad !!

Cheers - there's one in a local hobby shop for a very reasonable price: might pick it up now.

I will, of course, be making it more inaccurate....

Of course the major problem with building any Strat is that Boeing didn't seem to make any two of them the same as any other! There are loads of different window arrangements, even the same airline had aircraft with different windows, BOAC being just one.

All in all it's ideal propliner for Whiffers.........  -_- ;D
