Nice one DM - the SRA.1 is particularly good. What kit is it?

Hawkoog AEW1, HMSAS Princess Royal, South Atlantic, late 1983

Following the end of the Falklands war ( note not a conflict in this timeline as it is more widespread ) the Royal South African Navy isued an eurgent operational erquirement for a replacement for it's Gannet AEW aircraft.

The prefered aircraft the Gruman Hawkeye was initially refused by the US, still smarting from the defeat of it's allie Argentina. But as the relationship between France and the USA was still good and that the Dollar ruled over all it was possible for France to order two extra hawkeyes for it's navy and then quietly transfer two of it's now surplus aircraft to the RSAN.

Operated under the name Hawkoog with a AEW designation the two aircraft aquired so stealthily servrd upon the carrier HMSAS Princess Royal from late 1982 until she went down during the 91 disaster, thereafter the surviving aircraft operated from Diego Garcia until lack of spares forced it's withdrawl fom service around 1997 after the Indian Ocean conflicts.

this is the last of the Royal South African Navy aircraft i had in mind for the thread, not really falklands but close enough  ;D  ;D  ;D

North American Aviation F-86D-3 Sabre, Panama Self Defence Force. 1984

A product of the American Cental American Defence Fund or the " We have these old aircraft cheap....do you want them ? " deal, the air wing of the Panama self defence force operated the Sabre D from 1974 until it was withdrawn in 1986.

Initially equipped with 54 of the aircraft high atrition rates quickly brought this down to 30 and by withdrawl only 6 where able to fly. Updraded with Sdewinder ability in 1979/80 and upgraded again in 1982 to duel hardpoints.

photos are a little strange as my son has dropped the camera >:(
