I have to admit, I just love the look of the Yak Jets - both early and later, because the early ones look more like WW2 fighters retrofitted or a jet engine, and the later ones just look wicked - 38, 41, 130.
Putty-fu, Scratch-jutsu and Bash-chi, the sacred martial arts of the What-If. Mastering them, is Ancient Chinese Secret.

Just your friendly neighbourhood Mad Scientist and Ship-whiffer.

Overkill? Nah, it's Insurance.  So are the 20" guns.

An armor guy, who builds airplanes almost exclusively, that he converts to space fighters-- all while admiring ship models.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Sud-Est SE 5500 / SE 5503 le Sahara, BA 160 Dakar Ouakam, 1991

Following the closing of the Sud-Est SE 212 Durandal project in 1958 the company started research into large supersonic aircraft, and the aircraft that eventually became the le Sahara steems from there. Initially built as a research aircraft for military contracts the airframe impressed the french aie staff so much that they placed a limited order for 35 of the aircraft to equip 3 Squadrons in French overseas territories.

As initially designed the aircraft only carried free fall weapons and no in flight re-fueling capability, but by it's last incarnation the aircraft was fitted with a nose mounted in flight equipment, upgraded electronics, self defence missile hardpoints upon the wingtips for R530f missiles and 2 underwing hardpoints configured for extra fuel and finally the latest version of the De Gaul long range airbourne missile.

By the time of the 91 disaster the main base for the Le Sahara was at Dakar Ouakam, within Senegal, from where it was able to reach most assigned targets. during the disaster the aircraft flew missions against US and Soviet naval units, against ground targets in Angola and the Middle East.

The aircraft illustrated is portrayed bombed up and ready to go for a strike into Angola against a Cuban regiment forcing it's way past South African defenders.

The kit is the old revell offering with added bumps and lumps from the spares box, the tanks are from a Tornado, hindenburgers i think, curtesy of Chadders and the missile is actually bits of an old damaged Sam 2 . Paint scheme is based on Mirage F1's in Africa andmarkings a a mixture salvaged from the spares pile.

Another from the new 91 disaster collection and I'm very pleased with how it's turned out  ;D  ;D  ;D
