Highly amusing, but where are the lovely steam machines?   ;D

Look at http://fictitiousliveries.fotopic.net/c1036570.html for the steam locos.
Guess who has one nearly completely built with the paint ready to go on it?!

Ah, if you want to see Whiffing on rails, you've got to see the Berlinerwerke Apocrypha:

I do rather like the Class 51 Super-Deltic, though. Be a beaut on Slochd, even if utterly unjustifiable. (Dons anorak...)

The Rat

I would love to see this one, a childhood favourite, in Canadian Pacific or Canadian National livery:

It'd also look great painted up in the Victorian Railways livery ala the Spirit of Progress!
There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.

Radish

If anyone interested in steam locos has ever been to the Rail Museum in York they'll know how wonderful it is.
I've thought of building an "armoured engine" based on one of those Revell train kits :drink:

If he ever gets around to doing US locomotives, I'd love to suggest a GG1 in Southern Pacific markings.  Either a GG1 or some of the Great Northern's big electric locomotives; either would've been a good alternative to cab-forward steam engines for the long tunnels (actually, that's *why* Great Northern used electric locomotives, they had their own long tunnels).

Aren't some of the early diesel electrics considered to be 'streamliners' stylistically?    Whiff'd locomotives are a great idea!!!!

Not Canadian, but theres a fantastic pic of a pair of A4's in in Virgin livery:

And not quite as impressive, but in GNER livery too:

I'm pretty sure the one on the left is Mallard too, the pic looks like it was taken at the National Railway Museum in York.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yes indeedy, particularly the "unit-trains".
Raymond Loewy devoted the second half of his 1937 book Locomotive to the diesel-electrics.

The Loewy book is a very interesting period piece for design enthusiasts and was the second volume in a series called The New Vision.
The first was Aircraft by the architect Le Corbusier.

What about whiffing the technical bits? Changing a diesel-electric to full electric (or vv.), swap bogies (BB to CC) or add a third bogie in the middle, vary the length, change a diesel generator to a gas turbine or nuclear powerplant...
The possibilities are endless.

Model rail magazine has run a few 'counter factual' models over the years - e.g. Deltics in GNER livery etc.

I have the shell of a Hornby BoB class that will be in Rail blue with yellow ends when I get round to it.
It's not an effing  jump jet.
