This is my take on what movie producers should do when making a WW2 movie with equipment available at the time!
Lets say this is the early 1960's and we are making a movie on how the yanks won the war...(never been done before?) but we don't want to have both sides with M3 half tracks that look the same. We could paint half of them in dark grey and stick big crosses all over them and no one should notice or, we could modify some to look like German vehicles!...............lets do that!
