As discussed earlier, the F-107 won the competition with the F-104 to become the standard fighter for a number of NATO countries.  It eventually became one of the most widely used fighters in the world.  But by the 1990's they were being replaced by newer fighters, primarily the F-16.  The Italians were one of the last users of the Ultra-sabre.  Along with a number of upgrades, the F-107's eventually received a modern paint job of dull grays.   In 1991, a squadron of F-107's were sent in support of operation Desert Storm.  They primarily flew battlefield interdiction and support missions.  The example shown here is carrying a typical load of Mk20 Rockeyes and AGM-65 Mavericks.

The markings are from an Italeri F-16 kit.

My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
