C-141 Star Lifter

- the C-141 is about as long as the Belfast
- but the Belfast has a much wider fuselage

You could say that about the C-141 compared to an An-22 (in this case the C-141 is the A variant)



The Belfast though is practically the same size as the A400M




I don't think you could make the C-141 a 2-level airliner though, the C-141A (fuselage in my pic here) is practically the same size as a C-135/707.

IIRC they're both TF33P-7s, military versions of the JT3-D7s that the DC8-63s had.

Same engines on all Star Lifter versions, but I think Kitnut was just saying he was musing a build with the C-135 wings and the C-141 engines.

I was thinking of using the C-135 fuselage too --

So earlier on this morning, I was visiting SPF. And it just happened to have a thread on the Boeing XC-141 offering. It appears to be something like what I was thinking. The only thing that I wouldn't have guessed on was the main gear arrangement.

Cool stuff... yeah, sort of like a high wing 707!  I'm not skilled enough yet to attempt such a modification (especially the landing gear) but it would be a very neat project to build one of these!

Who's kits are the Belfast and An-22 Robert ?

The Belfast is a Magna Models resin kit and weighs a ton, the resin for the fuselage is more than 6mm thick and the wings (including most of the engine nacelles are solid resin. It's a bit multi-media, white metal for the u/c and props, and a clear-vac canopy. The An-22 is an A Model kit and multi media too, the fuselage and wing is all fiber-glass (molded separately but both in one piece, there's some vacuform which makes up the insides of the cargo area and there's some injection parts for the details. In the photo below you'll see that the nose of the fuselage is separate but moulded also in fiber-glass and in one piece.

Their smaller stuff is heavy enough. I can't even imagine how heavy the Belfast is 

Mind you I still have a soft spot for Magna kits
