Now it is time for you to help me to decide:

1) Two time frames: just after service entry or after a MLU, adding some bits...

2) Roundels and scheme: RAF or export (plausible suggestions)

3) Deppending on former points: weapon options.

Thanks a lot,
Carlos.

1/ Up to you Carlos, it just depends on how much extra work you want to put in to it.
2/ Finnish, or Finnish, or maybe FINNISH.
3/ Air/Ground or Air /Air, I do not mind, it is looking great even now.

A few ideas:

1) Pretty much as supplied, but with modified aerials etc...
2) Indian
3) Centreline GSh-23, two tanks on the inners and four R-60s on twin adaptors on the outboard pylons.

3) Two AIM-9P Sidewinders and two HM-55 (?) export-big-Falcons (as found on -F model Drakens and Swiss Mirages)

OK Carlos,

I am now at home, the previous post was done at workon duty.
Now I have had time to think a bit and I think you should look "Out of the box" for this one.
Either in an Interceptor role in natural metal finish, or ground attack in desert camouflage.

whichever you chose, it has to be .......................

Looking at it India would be the obvious choice but how about Sri Lanka, or Malaysia, or even the Philipines, all wanting to go supersonic and all after a cheap option
Everything looks better with the addition of British Roundels!

I'd love tosee it in RAF colours.  It's a classic example of a simple, early British jet fighter, yet it's RAF service was limited to a trainer.  To see this version in squadron colors with a weapons load would be very cool.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Basically, pick any Hunter or F-5 customer....

I would say Indian too, definitely fits into the HAL HF-24 Marut mould, and the Indians did have a Gnat production line.

Just for laughs, why not in Irish colors?  Should be interesting!

Carlos:

1. How about late in life, post MLU?
2. Export customer, ever thought about Saudia Arabia (hey, they bought the Hunter and Lightning didn't they) with a sand / stone camo scheme, or perhaps Swiss in the Patrouille Suisse display scheme?
3. If Saudi, pop a weapons load similar to the Hunter / Lightning - unguided rocket pods, guns plus a pair of close in IR missiles; if the Patrouille Suisse then it would be 'clean'.

this is nifty.

I have liked the Gnat as a concept.. even the bizarre concept of using it as a parasite fighter hung under a Vulcan bomber.

The larger, faster version is looking great.

Probably not that implausible.  The Irish had Magisters, if they wanted some improved performance a supersonic Gnat might well be the answer.

F-5/T-38 Customers would be fair game, a nippy Gnat would fit right into it's role.  This means a few unusual operators come into the realms of plausibility, such as Iran, Libya & North Vietnam.  Between existng Gnat, Hunter & F-5 operators you've got a lot of potential operators there.

Some operators took both the F-5 & Hunter, maybe they'd like to buy from one source?  That gives you Chile, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Singapore, Kenya, Switzerland & the Netherlands.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I think that Firestreak was proposed for Supersonic Gnat but I have a pair of Red Tops.
Is Red Top a plausible option?

Thanks,
Carlos.
