There's your Lion conversion, on thinking about it how adding one Sea Dart system fwd instead of the 3" gun put the SeaCats on the aft Superstructure and maybe another set on the fwd superstructure leaving the waist 3" guns in situ giving a very capable Air Defence ship with NGS capability. I did wonder about a 984 atop the fwd superstructure or the Anglo Dutch example propossed for CVA-01 and Bristol.

GeoffB,

I went with what I was given in the Matchbox kit and my leftover Skywave pieces.

If I had the Airfix Tiger, I might consider your idea, using WEM replacement parts. I'd expand on my design by adding a Lynx-sized hangar on the aft superstructure. Then I'd move the aft director to the top of the hangar, since where it is on my version would be the flight deck.

I'll add this to the pile with all the other "someday..." ideas.  ^_^

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Hi Joe

The Airfix Tiger is back on the shelves at the moment as a set with Daring and the other RN Post war Frigates & Destroyer are to be released as a Falklands set next month sometime (So i may be stocking up soon !!!). If i try one of these then i think it would only have a landing deck aft rather than a Hanger something like Bristol.

UK-75 Don't forget the BAC583 as that was designe dto be able to operate off the current carriers as a Sea Vixen replacement rather than a super fighter needing a super carrier.

Hi Ralph

Just looking at the CVA-01 model with Type 82 escort and was wondering if you had the drwawings as the Type 82 doesn't really look all that much like Bristol, I know originall she would have had the Anglo dutch radar, but that was to be inplace of the 982 that actually got fitted. I assume that the Ikara and Limbo would have been fitted as per Bristol with a twin Sea Dart aft in her original place.

Got my plans up for CVA-01 so i'll start looking at cleaning up mine to begin with.

The model of Bristol is taken from a pre-prototype model shown on Richard's site, but also a rough drawing taken from a German source called Weyers all the World's Warships from about 1967.

I admit to making some differences:

Ikara      This has been replaced by a second Seadart launcher (something never planned by the RN).  In my version the fire control radars are left on the CVA 01 but the missiles are shipped on Bristol.

40mm     The German drawing shows 2 of these fitted as well as torpedos.

general outline: this is lower and more frigate like than the eventual ship.  Again the model is pure fantasy.

Hope this helps!

I already have a part built 1/600 Bristol with the Ikara and Limbo wells already done, so i didn't fancy filling them in again. i was going to do her as originally built with the double bedstead, but instead i will fit the Anglo dutch radar dome instead.

Should start the CVA-01refit next weekend i hope.
