I have just got a 1/72nd scale TSR.2 as a swap with Thorvic. I want to build this aircraft as a current service aircraft in Canadian low vis markings and either a wrap round two tone grey scheme or in light ghost grey again with the low vis markings. I am thinking of putting two pylons on each wing as well as utilising the bomb bay. I was think of putting modern air to ground ordnance consisting of LGB's Mavericks, HARM's or perhaps multiple ejector racks with cluster bombs on. On the inner pylons there would be additional sidewinder rails like the F-15e has fitted. On the forward fuselage I would put a LANTIRN pod on one side and maybe an ECM pod on the other.
I thought this could be a very good alternative to the F-18's the Canadians currently have, and be capable of multi mission sorties only faster!!

Chris,

The TSR.2 is a great ship to be sure, but as a striker.  The radar availability and cross-section of the radome precludes any AA capable radar of worth.  As a fighter, it'd have to be a dog in my opinion.  As a multi-role, providing the 'multi-role' is strike, recon, etc, fine, but to expect it to be an air-defence asset, nope.  I'm no fan of the Bug as such, but it's definitely the better choice for the Canadians from an air-defence point of view.  For overland or martime strike, however, the TSR.2 would be a superb choice.

I was thinking of putting multiple Harpoon missiles on it as one the weapons fits, the sidewinders would just be for self defence in case it got in a bit of bother.I could have put exocets on it, but I have just given all I had to overkill, along with my kormorans.
I was expecting to get shunned at the very least for what I have planned for the plane, but, I suppose I better not speak to soon about that.
Good job I didn't put this thread up on the Airfix forum :o
I appreciate any input regarding this project as British aircraft are not my usual poison, so feel free to put your ten peneth in.

There were a couple of Canadian options on the Xtradecal sheets, here's one of them (the bottom profile)

Captain Canada

Anything CDN is agreeable with me ! I say go for it ! As for the radar, shouldn't be too hard to change that. I stuck the front half of a drop tank on mine to make it bigger !

Hi Chris

The pylon locations are scribed into the lower wing surface as circles which is quite handy for locating them.

For Cluster bombs its probably better if placed in bomb bay, unless thats used for fuel, leaving the wing pylons free for guided ordanance such as missiles and LGB's

With the laser designatorit would probably be something semi recessed under the avionics bay, with the optical turret under the fuselage and the electronics in a module in the avionics bay.
With the ECM gear thers no need for external pods, the system was built into the airframe on the TSR2, to update it the only visible sign would be possibly a change in shape and number of sensors.

( Thats the thing about TSR2, alot of the kit which is slung on todays aircraft was originally concieved to be built into TSR2. Tornado barely touches the capabilities and features designed for TSR2 )

Cheers
