Cool!  For something simpler, maybe a Marder IFV turret on the Leo hull?

How about up-armouring the Leo 1 as has been done with the T-72, M-60 etc - i.e. add heaps of Reactive Armour - maybe even do an IDF Leo...lots of ideas!

Would it be possible to fit the 2S19 Msta turret onto the Leopard 1 hull?

It would go even better for one of my armies in the Geriatric thread......  ;D

Cool stuff, Greg! Reminds me a bit of the M114 Lynx.

Also like the Leo 2 BMPT and the idea of modified/updated IDF Leopards.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Answering my own question, this webpage says the turret ring diametre of Leopard 1 and 2 is the same 1980mm.

That ought to allow for some interesting what-if combo...... which unfortunately doesn't seem to include the Centurion (1880mm) that I had in mind.

The turret ring diametre of the T-80 is around 2500mm...... guess that rules out 2S19 Msta turret on Leopard or T-72 hull, too......

Nice one Greg!  You know, I could almost throw that together from bits I've got: Marder turret, Luchs upper hull, Leo I. The only trouble is that I've used the Marder's gun pod and pedestal and the Luchs turret too....... Could always do it Israeli-style though, with just MGs and the Milan.

How about a Leopard hull with a Swedish MK 110 57mm turret. 250 rounds per minute, programmable air burst ammo, capable of taking out just about anything you want to fire at, including missiles, aircraft, shipping, and armour/infantry columns.

Something I just came across - a real life proposal to develop a specialised anti-tank version of the Puma IFV using old Leo 1 turrets:

I couldn't find a dedicated Leo II thread, so figured I might as well post here.

Some photos of one of the Leo II prototypes - note the additional 20mm cannon:

Great find Greg!!

I am especially interested in the 30mm Matador SPAAG!!
Any related info of this system with the pics?
Was the Matador a Bundeswehr endorsed program??
If so - I find it ironic that the Germans were able to develop both this and the Gepard - whilst the U.S Army has failed so dismally in fielding a modern and effective SPAAG!

Secondly - the Leopard 1 based MLRS system (the prototype -as opposed to the model!) - does it state the type and calibre of the rocket?
They seem so much larger than the 'Light Artillery Rocket System' (LARS) 110mm - the standard MLR system until replaced my the M270 MLRS.

I actually found the Matador turret not looking out of place on a M48 chassis.  ;D

Just replace the cannons with Bushmaster II.
