WORK IN PROGRESS

Part I is here: http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,14263.0/.html  just in January 2007, now I'm more seriously into it, and want to whif it into a Marine bird.

Enjoy.

The original Convair Model 48 Charger, LARA program contestant. Lost to the Rockwell OV-10 Bronco.

Thanks to Lou Vautour, Master solid-model maker from Canada for all his help and direction. All the credit goes to him. This could not have happened without him.

Apparently looks didn't mean much in that competition, Rafa. The Charger has it all ove the Bronco as far as I'm concerned and I'm going to really enjoy watching you create another masterpiece!

Looking good, Rafa.  What are you building this one out of?  It doesn't look like cardboard.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Thanks amigos!!!

This is made of pine wood. It hasn't arrive to the PSR stage yet. Lots of filling to do, but is fun to make, and a radical departure from what I "normally" do.

Are the wings really supposed to be that small?

Yep.

The image is from Air Progress, circa 1964.  This was part of the LARA program, and one of the specifications was the very narrow wingspan.  The prototype OV-10 Bronco had the same, till they discovered that there were handling problems, and extended the wings I forget how many feet.  Everyone knows the OV-10, but here also are the Martin

and Lockheed proposals

Well done Rafa, you've done it again.

On an aside, for the longest time there was a 1/72 resin kit of the Convair for sale on one of the second hand webstores I frequent, I went to see if it was still available but it looks like it's been bought.

I guess they must tie them to the roof?  ;D
Not older than dirt but remembers when it was still under warranty.

Think the Bronc's wings were extended 24in. (at least thats what my noggin remembers).

Not bad for some lumber work mate *tries to steer clear of the obvious puns*
