Well, nearly, they let her sit in the seat anyway & she was on works business!  Alison's a Travel Agent, every now and again she gets to go on 'Educational Trips' where 'it's all hard work, really' (course it is love)!  These pics are just taken last month on the Athabasca Glacier, she did a trip taking in Calgary, Bannf, Jasper & Edmonton.  Didn't get to take me unfortunately!


But I was more thinking of one these diddy versions, although that stretch Stolly might fit the bill for the first one you posted?

It appears that this vehicle was a fire truck (Marulan Fire Brigade) and was then converted by lengthening the frame to become a 6 X 6 off road motorhome in Australia.

This vehicle was mentioned in another topic a while back.  Thought it was worth saving the links for a special occasion such as this.  Apparently the name W.O.R.T.S is the applicable description for this type of vehicle.  WORTS is the abbreviation for Weird Off-Road TruckS that have been converted to motorhomes.

The original Wothahellizat is now in the process of being converted and is now undergoing the conversion to become the "Wothahellizat II" according to the owner's web page.  One of the critical design requirements for new vehicle was the ability to hold 65 bottles of beer.  Guess he has his priorities established.  :^)

The MAN HX & SX chassis might be useful for off road motorhomes, they're about as off-road as you get without tracks.  The British Army recentley took both, the nearby Defence School of Transport uses them & I've seen them on the road a few times.  There's a local garage they use for servicing & I see them & other types on the way to work:




I saw a Faun Koloss in a garage last week.  These things are huge & used for moving outsize loads.  Not off road, but imagine the size of motorhome you could shift!  You might have a few niche military uses such as a carrier for a SRBM or IRBM launcher, but they are enormous & not particularly mobile.  This pic is of a Faun Goliath, a more up to date version of the Koloss:

In case anyone here didn't see my post in Everyday Chat, I'll be visiting the US Army Transportation Museum at Fort Eustis tomorrow.  They have lots of trucks, jeeps and assorted movers.  I posted a link to their site in the other thread, so if there's anything there that anyone here wants photos of, please let me know.

I posted something on this topic/forum a couple of days ago, a 'What If' in relation to the truck I am about to 'again' speaking about.
But for some reason it was removed!

I have always been amazed and in complete ore as to the Soviets/Russians ability to both design and field such capable 'Transport Erector Launchers' (TEL) for their weapon systems, whether it be –
Self-propelled anti aircraft gun (SPAAG) or Surface-to-air missile (SAM) or their ballistic missile TEL, from the short-range battlefield missile to that of the gigantic and extremely heavy ICBM`s, the likes of the SS-27 Topol-M TEL.
It's not just the case that they are able to design and build them, but I am simply impressed in which they are able to build them in the numbers and variants they do, often more than not based on the basis of a single design.
The American have tried at times to emulate this, but as is often the case they over-design and engineer, run into massive costs, and then finally cancel the entire project, as was the case with the MGM-134A 'Migdetman' Lightweight ICBM.

The vehicle I have posted is the German designed and built Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 all- terrain nine axle vehicle that is the world's most powerful mobile crane.
Its operational weight of 211,640 lbs (what ever this equates to in kilograms and tons?) is astonishing!

I would like to see the basic chassis of the Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 modified into a transport erector launcher, say equipped with a modernized LGM-118A Peacekeeper ICBM to counter both the Russian SS-27 Topol-M and Chinese DF-31's.

I have modified the drawing of the LTM 11200-9.1 mobile crane in to a 'What If' LGM-118B Peacemaker II / LTM 11200-9.1 TEL configuration


P.S. I ask that someone with the skills and talent please re-profile my 'What If' LGM-118B Peacemaker II / LTM 11200-9.1 TEL in more appropriate military colours / camouflage
