I've been an aviation fan since I was five. Since then I've always had an ever-changing list of planes in mind that I thought were beautiful, at least to my sensibilities.

A few that come to mind (in no particular order) are the De Havilland Comet, the Beech Staggerwing, the SR-71/A-12/YF-12, and the XP-67 Bat.

What are some of your faves?

Not older than dirt but remembers when it was still under warranty.

Gary

Profound yeah baby on the XP-67.
Added to that list I would need to include the Diana, Airacobra and the Me-262. There is an elegance to the first two and a purposeful shark like look to the 262. The Hustler is kind of sexy too.
Getting back into modeling

Pretty much anything made by Hawker (in particular the Hunter, Fury, Demon, Sea Fury, Sea Hawk), the Lockheed Constellation, F-14 Tomcat, Sukhoi Su-27/30/etc Flanker, bubble-top Griffon Spitfires, DH Mosquito and Hornet, XB-70 Valkyrie, EE Lightning and Canberra, Avro Vulcan, Avia B.534, and of course, Concorde.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Tough call.

I don't have an absolute favorite, but higher spots on my list are occupied by:

Avro Arrow

DeHavilland just about anything (They made very few things that weren't beautiful)

MiG-21 F-13 (The early Fishbeds had a certain elegance that later ones lacked)

Northrop F-5 family (simply the most aesthetically pleasing combat aircraft to come off a post war American drawing board IMHO)

Bell P-39 Airacobra/P-63 kingcobra

Saab Gripen (Easily the most attractive of the new generation fighters )

As for civilian stuff

Piaggio P.180 Avanti

Beech 17 Staggerwing

Mitsubishi MU-2 Marquise

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

De Havilland Hornet for me, followed by Late Model Spitfires/Spiteful and Tempest/Fury/Sea Fury and the Martin Baker MB5.  Strangely can't think of any jet that really does it for me though.
