A couple of very quick self explanatory photos of my Academy 1:48 MiG 29. Rivals the Occidental G91 as my resident Filler Magnet. That's a NEOMEGA resin seat occupying the 'pit. An absolute must IMHO, as the kit seat looks waaayyyy underscale and just plain wrong.

Some general views of the build. I also invested in a QUICKBOOST replacement radome. I s'pose that I could have left the kit nose in place as a sort of secondary 'What If' , you know..... "What If, MiG 29's had cut-down radomes from the Su15"..... perhaps not, eh :banghead:

Squadron White, bought at Telford used on EVERY major joint, without exception. What a bl**dy mess !

That's the lot, no more pics til it's completely completed. Any queries, comments, suggestions and abuse warmly welcomed.

Thanks for that. At least I know which Mig-29 kit not to buy!

Looking good by the way!

The Hase Fulcrum's not too bad for 72 scale, but I don't work in the bigger ones so I can't really say much for them.

Your putty-fu is strong, Ian.  Good job on the filling.  Shame it had to require so much of it.

In my head, this looked great, in truth I'm still quite keen on the idea, but when I took the masking-tape off last night, I just couldn't believe what a 'dogs-dinner' the paint-job is..... it's bl**dy awful ! - I'll be sanding and stripping this back to the plastic and starting again. This time, the 'grey' tone (Xtracolour ADC Grey) will be substituted for something a wee bit less 'pastelle'. Maybe Dark Compass Grey ?

Coming along nicely Ian.  It's always a treat to see a dodgy kit end up looking good.  I wonder if it's an early Academy kit?  Their later 72nd stuff is quite good, although I've never built any of the quarterscale before.  Regarding the paint, I can't see the problem, but I guess you've got your reasons for not liking it.

Ian, that looks bob on from here. I too have done a mig 29 in that cam and a mig 21, but mine are in 72nd scale. It can be a nightmare with the overspray, but I have found using wider tape helps prevent this, and a narrow and close paint jet. But yours looks perfect, seriously.

Your camo looks awesome in that pic, Ian! Personally, I'd keep it! Did you get some paint ridges perhaps where different colors meet? If that's the case, you can sand those down with fine-grit sandpaper and do any small touch-ups by hand. This is how I removed the paint ridges on my Peaceliner.

I think that scheme is sharp as a tack!

You know what they say about the camera adding weight to your image :^)

Looks good Ian.  Maybe it would look even better after consuming a couple glasses of something with alcohol in it.  Perhaps four fingers of rum in your nog glass instead of two?

what went wrong? i found that spraying with the color you just did after masking but before the next one helps prevent(or at least conceal) under-tape bleeding.

In dunno I tlooks kinda alright to me!

But then the photo and lighting might be making kit look better than it is.

Good luck with the stripping and repainting. Been there done that!

I have to agree with the rest of these guys, the paint job looks good.  I don't know if you're after a 'clean' bird, but maybe some judicious weathering would bring it home for you. . .

The colours look pretty good, Ian, but if you aren't happy with that gray, yes, I might suggest something like a Neutral gray perhaps.

Still, Fulcrum in that Ukranian Blue Pattern is nice.  Very sexy looking.  The jagged lines are just beautiful.  The gray is a little pastel mud looking, but hey, it happens.

End of the day, it's your model, if you're happy with it, toss your thumbs up.  If not, strip it and spray it again.  It could turn out either way man.
