Surprisingly I couldn't find a P-40 thread (apart from the old GB that is), so here goes:

Glenn's recent Black Shouldered Kite made me wonder if there couldn't be a different take on a twinned P-40:

Carrier capable version - Seahawk?

Cannons instead of .50s (for Commonwealth use)? I know the USAAF had a strange aversion to cannons on fighters...
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Some of the alternate engines tested make for interesting viewing.  Add to that, maybe a Griffon or Sabre engined example.

Pyro, I agree on the cannon replacing two of the .50s per wing too.  Never quite understood the USAAF's attitude to cannon vs MGs regardless of how much lead Ma Deuce can throw.

It may not be clear but my twin engined P-40 has 2 20mm cannon in the central pod + the standard 6 MGs in the outer wings.

Kind of makes me wonder if the P-40 could handle the power of that beast,to handle the extra torque I enlarged the tail fin (I just used the one off the tempest) and beefed up the landing gear a bit.I think i could have given it a slightly larger wheel though.I'm glad you like it mav I thought the similar radaitor arrangement would make for an interesting swap.Feel free to throw some color on it if you want  ;D ;D ;D

I Like!

Maybe that could be an "aggressor" aircraft in the WW II-era Japanese Top Gun school. Pretend they "burnt out" all the Allisons and had to substitute.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

PanzerWulff

looks similar to the early P-40 B model verry sleek and shark like

Basically, they thought muzzle velocity was more important than hitting power. Given that they were mostly facing medium bombers and fighters rather than hard-to-destroy heavies, there's a degree of merit in the argument.

This is one I mocked up a while back to test some colour schemes for a plastic version.  Never got around to those, although Mav has done a few colour profiles.  My basis for it was an interim floatplane fighter until the SC Seahawk entered service, also as a replacement for the 'Hurricats' in the RAF's Merchant Ship Fighter Unit.  The Curtiss style central float seems to fit the P-40, almost like they were thinking about it, it does look a little like a lightweight SO3C.  It's seems natrual that a floatplane version of the P-40 would have been at least loosely proposed at some point.

I did do the plastic version, shots & backstory here.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
