What if....

The stalled development of the Hawker Sea Hunter carrier bourne interceptor for the Swiss Navy left the Swiss government with only a few Vampires and Venoms with which to equip their 20,000 tonnes Aircraft Carrier, the "Jacques Piccard". Needing to re-establish their sea presence, the Swiss had  little option but to purchase 30 North American FJ-4B Fury's that were destined for the US Naval Reserve. Seen as only a stop gap measure, the Furies served until 1972. 25 years later the commissioning of the new Carrier "Heidi" saw the arrival of 20 McDonnell Douglas  F/A-18 Hornets...... Future plans are underway for their next generation super carrier currently under construction at Lausanne due to be launched in 2011 but no decision has yet been made to what aircraft will equip, the "Roger Federer".

Any ideas ? Also what servered between the Furies and the Hornets ? Etendards ? A-4s ? F-8s ? Sea Drakkens ?

Kit is Emhar N.A FJ4B Fury that came without a front undercarriage leg. Spare part from the spares box (think its a Super Sabre's). Decals from the Airfix Hunter + spares. Inspiration from you lot !

Now I sure like the look of that! The colors really set it off!

That's one drop-dead sexy scheme there Bungle! I don't know if the Swiss have a navy (patrolling their lakes and rivers, perhaps?), but that only adds to the charm! Well done!

I like this concept and the color scheme works great.

I think I read that the Swiss Navy used Grumman F11F Tigers following their Fury's.

OK ----- I like the idea and I've always liked the FJ-4 as the ultimate Sabre (not including the F-100 that is) and I know this is 'what-if' and I also know Switzerland has a lot of lakes (some big ones too so my sister tells me as she lives there) but are any of these lakes big enough to allow a carrier to turn around to reverse direction  ;D

I havent got any charts of Swiss lakes, but there might be some down in the Sea Scout house.
Looking at Google Earth though, Lake Geneve and Obersee might be large enough. That said, a supercarrier would not be able to make maneuvers there without trespassing other nations waters

Ok, on the serious side, the lakes are large enough. My only worry is how deep these lakes are
