I volunteered to build a guy a B-17, as his grandfather flew them for the 8th Air Force in WWII.  I saw the 'visible' Revell kit at the shop, but that doesn't really appeal to me.  I was hoping to find a good offering in 1/72 rather than 1/48.  I grabbed up a 1/144 Minicraft, but it's awful.  Anyone who's built a B-17 or two have some suggestions on the best kit?

Thanks in advance!

The ones that I've built are the original Airfix kit and the reboxed Academy kit Airfix does (started it anyway)  I can't comment on the Hasegawa one as not only have I not built one I don't have one in the stash.  Personally I like the original Airfix kit but the Academy one is not bad at all, the only thing to watch is when attaching the wings, the mating surface of the wing to the fuselage is not flat so you can end up with a wing with too much dyheadral or not enough.  An easy fix I think for someone with a bit of experience.

Academy/Airfix or Hasegawa' depending on the mark you wish to build. Both have slight problems to correct but finish up as good models. I suggest a search on ARC will find more information on these problems - it seems to get covered every 3 months or so.

Academy. You will need to find a new set of markings though...
