Alongside a Skua ?

Of which I have a part completed Pavla one in the stash. It stalled because the cockpit sits way, way to low. Also have an SH one as well  ;D

Not sure if FAA would have funded 2 fighters ? Also size of carriers might deter ?Although with the Skua being two seater you could say that was for fighter/recce and the Gloster was fleet defence ?

Well the idea with the 2-seater fighters was that they needed a navigator to get them back to the carrier, so maybe they'd have mostly Gloster F.5/34s with a small number of Skuas to act as "navigation leaders", i.e. they'd launch one or two Skuas with each fighter patrol...

Of course, the Skua was also a dive-bomber, and not a bad one at that (it's main deficiency was payload) so there's another reason to have both on a carrier.

The Wooksta!

There was one ace on Skuas, believe it or not and the type's record as a fighter is quite good for an aircraft considered an "also ran".

Yup when you actually read up on it rather then go by heresay it does have a reasonable record during that early stage of the war, especially considering it was a bit of a "maid of all works" as a lot of FAA aircraft had to be.

For what it is worth, in the mid 30s the FAA did operate Ospreys as nav leaders for Nimrods, with mixed squadrons of 4 2-seaters and 8 single- seaters.  Over time, the numbers of Nimrods diminished until the Sqns were all Ospreys

NARSES2

So if that continued to the late 30's you get some interesting possibilties

Interesting choices.  Been after a Magister for some time actually, so this will be timely.

Captain Canada

Does look good ! I like the look of the rockets inboard of the booms...never seen that before. Wonder if I should bust the SNEB pods off mine and go with old-school singles ? When did SNEBs first come in to service ?
