Boeing 767-300DD build

Those of you who've seen this monster in the Gallery perhaps would not be surprised to know that Boeing planned an even bigger version!



This, the -200DD, was essentially a 767-200 with a 737-200 mounted on top. The larger version would have been 767-300 length with a 737-300 sized upper cabin, and the wing moved rearward a little. It would also have had a centre-line landing gear, a la A340 or DC10-30.

This is how far I've progressed on my 1/144 scale version. Main fuselage adjusted to move the wing rearward and the 737 fuse about to be sawn up and it's tail end inverted. As you can see I have a plethora of engines to chose from.


You can just see the centre-line wheel well hole, and naturally I'll use an A340 well and legs etc.

What's yet to be decided is an appropriate airline. The -200DD model was built with RR engines and the Airfix Tri-Star Cathay Pacific decals fitted as if they'd been designed for it. I'm thinking something purely American, PSA with the 'smile' might be good, or a later version of Delta. As I flew trans-Atlantic with them umpteen times in the last 30 years I had thought of doing Northwest, but that upper cabin makes the grey area look widly out of proportion.

Any suggestions?

Maybe upsize the engines? Im thinking something in the lines of the GE90-76B, RR-Trent-800 or RR Trent 700?

That's in my mind yes, but unless I make the gear legs longer, and move them further outboard under the wings, I'll run into ground clearance problems. The engine nearest the fuse is a large size CF-6 from a 747-400 and that just fits. Just needs a lot of work to make it look like a CF-6..........
