Postlady Pat brought me a nice Airfix 1/48 TSR2 yesterday - its got a very big box!

Is that the postlady or the TSR.2.....  Sorry, at it again!  Coat, hat, gone.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I absolutely would NOT crow about this until I actually got the plastic in my sweaty hands in case I jinxed it, but now I have, and I havn't, I will........ ;D

I just got a TSR.2 for under a tenner.

How? Well the ebay seller had, for reasons best known to himself, got an Airfix 1/72nd TSR.2, an Airfix 1/72nd Tornado GR.4 and a Revell 1/72nd EC-145 helo, all in the TSR.2 box and all slightly started, but not spoilt. The thing was, his auction title on ebay was "3 x Revell and Airfix kits": no mention of the TSR.2..........   Result? All the TSR.2 fanboy's searches didn't find it, it got exactly three bids, and I won it for £17.89 including postage....

It arrived today: few small bits glued together on all three, nothing painted, nothing spoilt.  Given that the other week, I watched a 1/72nd TSR.2 with no box and no transparencies go for the price of a new 1/48th one, I think that was a steal...

Now what to do with it? Three things immediately occur to me:

1. Given that (whisper the heresy) I'm not a TSR.2 fan  :o, what I've always wanted to do is make a model of one of the prototypes in the state it ended up on the ranges at Shoeburyness .

2. TSRjoe's thread about the "missing" prototype and the rumours of US involvement in it's cancellation also gave me the idea of doing it semi-dismantled in a crate with it's fin sticking out of it, and the wings and u/c stacked alongside, forgotten in the corner of a vast US Govt. warehouse, like the one at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

3. Sovietize it.......

Well, maybe that GR.4 that was in the box is case of modelling serendipity.  This project would have two phases:
Eagle Phase II:  Mid life update with minimal changes to airframe & engines to enable the Eagle to carry modern ordanance.
Eagle Phase III: More substantial changes, redesign of forward fuselage & cockpit to incorporate new radar, new engines & intakes.

Alternatively, there was a proposal to resurrect the TSR.2 as a MRCA alternative that I think incorporated some aspects of Tornado.  Joe should have more details on this.

one of these is going to be an air defence variant for my Marine task force. Plus I need to use up some of my stock pile of aim-54 missiles.

That occured to me too, i.e that he might have bought the GR.4 to provide "dressing" and weapons for an updated TSR.2, although he had started building the Tornado. Not sure where the helo fitted in though: TSR.2 convertiplane?  ;D
