Maybe not the most financially astute decision I've mad recently, but today my order from Squaron arrived:

3x Minicraft 1/144 Douglas C-118s (Harry Truman's "Air Force One", a military DC-6)

2x Minicraft 1/144 Boeing 707s

2x Eduard 1/72 Nieuport 17s (bagged)

1 roll 1/8" Tamiya tape

grand total (with shipping): $41.

Airfix Javelin T.3 from ebay. Lots of money by my standards, but neccessary to mix with an FAW.9 (got) for my Avro Avenger/AW Ambassador (not sure which will be which yet), plus looking at some of the prices on trade stands at Bolton kinda put things in perspective a bit.

Having now had a play with it, it's canopy and engine fairing will probably also help my proposed Lightning F.13 project (way off) and STILL leave me enough bits to build some other Javelinish thingy from the two kits.....

And again (postie arrived before I left for work for once):

1. Revell 1/100th Kfir C2/F-21. I wanted some very small Israeli roundels for the Super Magister. The box art for this only shows the F-21, but the title implies an Israeli decal option, so I e-mailed the seller to ask, but he didn't reply before the end of the auction, so since it was cheap, I let it ride and won it. Unfortunately, it didn't come before the Bolton show, where, given that I wouldn't get another chance soon, I bought an expensive (to me) Israeli Helos decal set.... Guess what? The Kfir has suitable roundels in it......

The Israeli Helos decal set may therefore be up for sale soon after the Super Mag's done.

2. Heller 1/72nd MiG-19. I want a Farmer to chop up into an SM12-like aircraft (MiG-21 nose, basically) for Patchwork World. I've got a KP one which I wasn't impressed with but now I look at the Heller one (which I might have had a rose-tinted memory of) I think I might use it after all. I can, after all, use the KP's dozen's of seperate air scopps to Sovietise stuff.....

Hi people,
If any of you plan to build a MiG-19 with these kits, take into account that while Heller's model is better molded, from an accuracy point of view it is much worse. Examples: the CocaCola bottle shape of fuselage is wrong, cranked trailing edge of wing is wrong too, nose intake wrong too, and so on... I would probably use KP's as a base to be improved with Heller's bits.

AFAIK, Bilek is currently the best choice in 1/72.

Plus the Heller's alleged AA-1 Alkali missiles arn't even remotely like the real things.

Hmm - might be whiffing/pillaging both of them at this rate......

... mmmmmm ... with some work could look well (almost accurate).

Yes

I wanted them to fit to a Sovietized Mystere IV, but I think I'll go with plan-B: two 1/114th scale AA-7 Apexes: they might be inaccurate, but least they're "sharp".

Nothing. I was a very sensible boy today and did not succumb to the temptation of another what-if Space Shuttle resin kit. -_-

I went to Comet Miniatures in south London this morning and spent nearly an hour gazing in wonder at the amazing range of hard-to-find kits and the matching prices :o   I just might head back that way when I have money to play with, probably in 2012!

Went on a guided tour of the Thames Barrier this afternoon and it is both fascinating and surprisingly small for such a great structure.

At Bolton: -   Courtesy of our very own FALCON, and as a complete (and very welcome), surprise. An old Airfix 1:72 HI-TECH Weapons set, yup the one with the etched brass fins for the missiles...... Brilliant, thanks Chris

Just back from Bolton and I had a great time what with Transport Model, the meal out on the Saturday night and the show on the Sunday, great to see everyone again.
Right down to the purchases, big boxes included,...

Care to elaborate on what that is?  I keep thinking about those transportable toilets that you see at construction sites and open air concert events :)

BTW, that Ecsi 1/72nd scale C-130K should also have parts included for the HC-130 or whatever it is called now.  At least my ESCI C-130K Hercules kit had the parts for the large "brain tumor" and aerial refueling pods for under the wings included but not mentioned in the instructions.  It was like ESCI was planning on releasing that version but never got around to it as they went under around the same time as that kit was released.

Yesterday, picked up a Revell Star Wars Easykit Pocket (there's a mouthfull!) TIE Interceptor, just for fun I guess!  Had it together in about an hour. Kids would probably would have been quicker, but the modeller in me wouldn't let me do it without checking fit & sanding down sprue gates!

A bonus is that although the kit works out about 1/100, the pilot is closer to 1/72, so I've got an Imperial TIE pilot ready to put in a model!

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

It could be...........

But a Portakabin is a generic name for almost any sort of portable building here in UK. Most building sites (construction sites in American....) are waist deep in the things. They are built so thay can be carried by standard flat bed trucks, and can be stacked up to three high if need be. Many companies use them for temporary office accomodation, and they can be seen all over the country pretty much. There's many more than one supplier, but only one is entitled 'Portakabin'

The word 'Portakabin' itself is a trade name, and the firm are a trifle belligerent about defending it. Stupid them, as it's like having a free advert every time someone uses it. They have a similar attitude to American Airlines, Boeing, and what used to be the Chessie System Railroads.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks for the clarification.  From the description it sounds very much like the standard ISO type containers that are now offered for similar purposes.
