Just made my first purchases in a few months.  Also happen to be the first of 2009!  Had to go to Lansing, MI today, so on the way back, I made a small detour to Dean's in Flushing (first time I've been there in over a year).  I always make sure I've got money in the bank before going there.

Anyways, I picked up some off the wall stuff:

2 x Hobbycraft 1/72 Dash 8
Italeri 1/72 SH-60B
Testors 1/72 T-45A
Hasegawa 1/72 weapons packs (air-to-air and air-to-ground)
Hasegawa 1/72 MU-2A Air Rescue
Hasegawa 1/72 YS-11
Hasegawa 1/72 T-2 CCV
Matchbox 1/72 Twin Otter
MPC 1/72 Beagle Bassett 206
Monogram 1/72 HU-16B (as a prize for the Flying Boat GB)

I wanted to get the 1/72 Hobbycraft Caribou they had, but it was a bit too expensive.  I think I'll do to one of the Dash-8's what I was going to do to the Caribou.

1/48 models of Bf-109s?

Is it Hasegawa?
Is it Italeri?
Is it Revell?
Or is it Tamiya?

Nah, forget those, theyre for noobs. I present to you, straight outta Haifa, from a time when the Israeli AF was occasionally taking beatings from other air forces...

STARFIX!!!!!

Starfix presents you with possibilities, no other manufacturer comes close to!
For example, the lack of instruction sheet allows you to put the plane together as you like it best! Oh look, the propeller spinner axle is off centre, and the spinner is just wrong
The decals make Academy look pleasant, and the flash makes KP look like Tamiya :o
The glue "bladder" dried out when Sinai was still Israeli.
This will be fun, when the day comes. That day, is the day when a new-built DHC-5 Buffalo is rolled out of the factory, or the day a nuclear war destroys all other un-built model kits on earth

LOL
I totally agree with you about these kits, I used to build them as a kid and even then they made me cringe, but they were only 99p from my newsagents.
I bought an hh-3 jolly green giant a while back of ebay that is a starfix kit, just because it was cheap, 3 quid and I felt sorry for it until I got it out of its box, then the nostalgia came flooding back, WOW!! just how rubbish are these things!! Everyone should have a starfix kit in their collection, just to let them know that crap quality kits are not a new thing brought over from the former soviet union.
 !ALL HAIL THE MOTHER OF ALL KRUDDY KITS, STARFIX!!!

I got the 1/35 scale Trumpeter M1A1 M1A2 Abrams 5 in 1 kit, from Sprue Bros. They have it on sale for $24 which is a great deal for probably the best Abrams kit out there, plus a ton of options.

I also got the Academy M151 Remote Weapons Station. This is an odd kit - there's a sprue for the weapons station, then another sprue with road wheels and hatches... but no instructions. Maybe it was packaging error.

I know AFV Club did the M151 with wheels and other parts (sprues from the Stryker I think) and the instructions were on the box.

Frank,

Here is a link to the PMMS kit review for the AFV Club Kit #AF35157,1/35th Scale M151 Remote Weapons Station that was done by Terry Ashley.

The Trumpeter M1 Abrams 5 in 1 kit sounds like a really good deal.

Thanks Jeff - it is indeed the AFV Club M151 RWS that I got. The M1 looks very nice.

Made a great haul at the club meeting this week.  One of the guys brought in a big box of rejects that a former LHS had given him.  Lots of old stuff that he couldn't get rid of, so he sent it to us to take for free.  Most of the stuff was missing parts, canopies, decals or instructions.  At the end of the evening, there were still some useful stuff left, so I brought it home.

1/72 KP Mig 19 (missing decals)
1/72 MPC Helldiver (missing clear parts)
1/144 Revell P-3 (box had two kits but missing clear parts)
1/72 KP Su7 (missing clear parts)
1/72 MPC P-51 (missing clear parts)
1/25 Dukes of Hazzard, Daisy's CJ Jeep
1/72 Matchbox Buccaneer (started and missing clear parts)

and a few more.  Great source of parts and Whiffing potential.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Strewth, there'd have been fewer of those left at the end of the night if I'd been there - nice one Ed!

Pegasus 1/72nd Fokker D.XXIII courtesy of the Freightdog Models sale. http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,22758.0.html

Lovely little kit, of very high quality allowing for the fact that it's a limited run job. It's much better than the "mass produced" PM D.XXI I just bought. To be done Real World, I think.

I seem to be accidentally acquiring a pre-war Dutch airforce: anyone do a good G.I?  ;D
