Re WW1; I've seen various old magazine covers which depict ww1 era planes firing death rays - SF mags mostly, but the odd thing like Popular Mechanics etc.
Also; on Major General Tremordan-Reddering's Colonial Era Wargames Site, there's a battle report involving Germans discovering the lost world, and using Dinosaurs as armor...

Re WW1; I've seen various old magazine covers which depict ww1 era planes firing death rays -

There was definately some experimentation around WWI, connected to early radar studies.  There could be heat generated when certain rays were focused, but it was impractical to scale up into a weapon (something that's still a problem now).  Stretch the technology a bit (discovery of an exoitic energy source, crashed alien spacecraft etc.) & you could have death ray cannons mounted on aircraft, tanks, ground emplacements, although I particularly like the idea of ground bombardment by Airship.

just had a thought and remembered this topic.

in 2014, we will remember the start of World War 1, 100 years ago. and i was thinking that maybe we could revive this GB idea in memory if it?
over the years more and more WW1 models have been released by Revell, Airfix,.....and propably more will be released by that time.
so maybe we can add a number of other lesser known factions to the war, like Switserland, Sweden, Yugoslavia (where it all began).

we could have it run for a year (January to December 2014) or for 3.5 months as a theme build (suggesting in 2014 from 28 July to November 11, the days that the war started and ended in 1914 and 1918)

just a thought

I would be interested in this especially since I just got done reading a book about early aviation and I now know allot about the early planes or as they called them "flying machines" and it would be good to do it on the 100 anniversary
