I have just received my tupolev Backfire from Bungle and was wondering if there is a conversion kit out there to make it into the version with the mig-25 style air intakes. The kit I have is the Esci Tupolev Tu-22m/TU-26 Backfire-B.
As much as I like the kit as is, I just got to have those big angled intakes. Has anyone here done a conversion, if so what did you use and how easy/awkward was it to do. All help and info will be most appreciated.
Cheers,

Esci also did the Tu-22 m3 Backfire C, which Italeri issued a few years ago, so i dont think there was a need for the conversion.

Thanks for the great info lads, but the version I have is the earlier one with the "D" shaped intakes. I want to convert it to the newer version as shown in the pictures GTX sourced for me. I don't want to go the whole hog and covert the plane as much as this guy did, I just want to do the intakes.
Cheers,
Chris

Try looking around at other sources on the web for the Tu-22M3 kit (Ebay especially), you may be able to find one for a good deal, or at least locate someone who's willing to part with the intake parts you want.

SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS? ? ? ?

Strewth, how many Rolls-Royce Phantoms does he have as company cars? That's a ridiculous price for a Tu-22 of any size............  >:(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Some of his prices are on the high side, but then no one is twisting anyone's arms to buy them either.  If it doesn't sell then it doesn't sell does it.

The backfire "C" is the one I want to build, and with a bit of luck it shouldn't be a difficult a job as I dont want to get into too much detail with it just do the intakes. Old model kits is having a giraffe asking that much for one of these kit I agree. The kit I have is the Backfire B.

Hello Chris, I am lucky enough to have these two kits: the old with the D shaped intakes and the "new" with the foxbat style ones. I don´t want to scrap them, just because I paid a lot of money for the kits and have plans for both... but I can measure the intakes pieces so you could build them from plastic sheet, cardboard, or whatever. I´ll dig in the box where I keep my stash tomorrow and post the exact measures of the piece, stay tuned!

Thanks for that gunfighter, I think I might be able to get a straight swap with another member who has just PM'd me, that should hopefully make the transplant easier.

Hi folks,

An idea triggered by this - what about either the Tu-22 Blinder or Tu-22M Backfire with a large tailless delta wing?

Very interesting idea, Greg - I'm left to wonder how it would have performed compared to the standard Blinder, with that big delta wing.
