Using the following images from Hyperscale:

At the red line behind the wings, add 1/4 inch to the fuselage.
Replace the wings with the outer wings of the F-16 or enlarging the current wings by some 50% following the same planform.
Carve away the exhausts a bit making the exit a bit more forward and put resin burner cans in the holes.
Add F-104-like bullets in the intakes.
Enlarge the tail empennage a bit.
Move main gear aft about 1/4 inch as well.
Engrave.
Paint in Red/White Edwards AFB colors but with some blue cheat lines as well.

Why not?
,

[Edit]

1/4" fuselage plug in front of the main wing, 1/4" fuselage plug aft the main wing.   New engines to get the machine up to 2,000 mph as designed, reconnaissance bay behind pilot, all black.   Voila--one spy Stilletto.

I'm getting the old Revell 72nd kit next week & will try it out.

you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

That is seriously cool!

What would the other aircraft be?

Daryl,

Have you considered some kind of camera bay ahead of the pilot?  With all of that space up front between the pitot tube and the cockpit there should be ample room for a couple of cameras.  Especially the long focal length cameras that on some platforms could be turned to image as a left or right oblique and a vertical camera.

What's interesting about that comment, Jeffrey, is that the X-3's shirt tail cousin does just that.   Since making the post, I learned that Douglas was required to give X-3 project information to Lockheed which led to the F-104, then the U-2, and TR-1.

Now, perhaps Douglas kept that information.............................

I like the idea very much.
