A curious mix of years 50: Forward swept back wings anf swept forward wings; except for the problem of the danger the vertical stabilizer would run at the time to separate the planes.

Everybody worries about that with these configurations but the chances of it actually happening are just about nil, due to one fact: Inertia, Newton's first law. The upper aircraft has a fair amount of streamlined mass, so once it's released it will keep going for quite a while before it slows down and by then it should be well clear. Another thing I've noticed is that the upper aircraft is often mounted with a greater angle of attack, which will automatically lift it away rapidly.

Actually, there is a problem with this configuration, but it usually isn't separation, but rather the upper a/c disrupts the airflow around the vertical fin of the lower a/c.  That's why on a lot of these mistel configurations, they use twin fins or have addtional fins on the horizonal stabilizers.

Oh, yeah, nice models.  A realistic concept.
