I have this feeling: the uneven surface will magically sand off into a perfect-looking weathered finish.
We'll all end up applauding your ingenuity and, by this time next week, we'll all be stealing your new 'technique'!!!

Well here's hoping..... It's not just the texture: the brown's gone white where the varnish is thickest, i.e. in the deepest corners and the hinge-lines of the control surfaces, which are exactly the bits you want darker, hence the intention to touch up with pencils. Alternatively, I might see how a thin ink wash does.

At least the kit's moulded in silver plastic, so if I do over-sand it a shade on edges/raised detail, it'll still look like weathering!

Heck, Weaver that is looking GREAAAAT!
I wish I had seen your masking technique a week ago, it would have saved me a lot of problems. Oh well, we live and learn as my Granny used to say.

COME ON H!! I am dying to see this thing finished,
I have an old Airfix one of these, that will get the Honduras treatment, I won't be quite as adventurous though with the seating arrangement, it will stay a tandem CAS bird. Oh and the T-33 you got for me is nearly done as a forward air control jalopy.

Okay, here we go. Not too terrible, but it'll need so much touch-up that it would probably have been easier to hand-paint it in the first place . I decided not to darken the darker green in the end - still not sure if that was the right call or not.....

Looks slightly faded after sitting out in that tropical sun.
Superb!

Nice paint job, almost Israeli, if not quite!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

That turned out really nice!

Nice paint job.  It almost looks like the colors faded to pastels...

I wouldn't worry about darkening the deeper green----all your colors flow nicely together as is.
Hey, I just read your post in the Tips section re: your prior airbrushing problems----did you ever find an alternative to the spraycan propellant?
