Thanks for the link. The only problem with it being a paper kit is I doubt it would hold my scratchbuilt one as the the 4 cone shaped boosters are modified wooden chair legs while the main rocket parts are flying model rocket tubes, etc., so it's kinda heavy. I imagine Mach 2's plastic ones are too heavy for a paper launcher as well. I'm sure I can use the paper kit as a template & make one from plastic and/or wood that'll work tho. I think the main reason I never scratched the launcher was lack of info.

I scratchbuilt a more-or-less generic 1/72 Vostok launcher back in the mid '90s & I've always wanted that railcar looking transport for it but never got around to it. I wonder with the release of these if we'll get any aftermarket transports/launchers for these.

IIRC there is a paper-card launcher available somewhere on the net.  Shouldn't be too hard to scale it to 1/72 and print it out and fold it.

Ah, yes, here it is with a whole load of other free, paper models of rockets, etc. - http://www.ninfinger.org/models/ClassicPaperSpaceModels/ClassicPaperSpaceModels.html

Chair legs?  :o

Now THAT'S what I call inovative modelling!

:) And the rocket nozzles are small wooden bells, all 32(?) of 'em.

Now, that would be heavy.  Yes, you could use it as a template. You might have to use metal rather than plastic though!

How long before someone does some resin turboprops to make a 540 out of the 440?

Proteus do a complete line of this Convair, in 1/72 scale too.  They're all multi-media kits and you can get them through Welsh Models.

AFAIK Proteus ARE Welsh Models in a different guise.

Densil Wade is a member of our local model club and he mentioned the use of the Protes name some years ago.

That's interesting to know Kit, at one time there used to be some info about Proteus on the Welsh Models website and I'm sure I read that the creator of the model masters was someone else and that Welsh Models did all the production.

Trying to find out Densil's design and production methods is a bit like trying to get a trip round Area 51, he plays things VERY close to his chest.  ;)

You could well be right about the design and production of the Proteus stuff, but I'm not sure it'll be worth my while asking him next time I see him.

In at Hannants. Mach 2 "quality" or not, this is nice subject to see in 1/72nd. Huge number of whiff possibilities:

Also, more space:

Another nice-to-see in at Hannants. This is another new-tool and is apparently better quality than older Mach 2 offerings, although the transparencies are still poor. On the upside, there are lots of unused lumps and bumps on the sprues for upcoming boxings of different versions:

USAF version : http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MACH7257
Swiss Air Force version : http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MACH7258

(That pic's from here btw: http://www.master194.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=85229, the Hannants pics is rubbish).

AND

An AEW Avenger in 1/72nd. This boxing's JMSDF, but I'm sure some folk will have other plans for it....
