Got the Mach2 Avro 685 York delivered yesterday whilst I was at work. First impressions are a lot of flash on the mouldings. Cleaning up on the fuselage and a sink mark on the lower left wing. As per usual the instructions are on the vague side but I have a copy of the Aviation Archive 'Merlin, the legendary engine and it's aircraft',
Which has an article on the Avro York pages 76-78 and a cut-out drawing with black & white photos, inside and out. Details of seating and a colour line drawing of an example flown by Dan-Air.
You might want to use alternative parts for the wings, engines and landing gear, propellers, exhaust pipes and wheels. The windows look a bit foggy to me, but the cockpit canopy is a lot clearer.
With aftermarket parts the cockpit can be improved.
You also get a roundel masking set and two alternative decals for No.51 Squadron Berlin Air Lift 1948 or No.24 Squadron Berlin Air Lift 1948- laser printed.
The fuselage will need gluing in stages otherwise you end up with a gap behind the cockpit.
I've got a couple of Whiff ideas if I get stuck, like turning it back into a bomber or using the wings and engines from the Shackleton- Yorkie!

I received the 1/72 Mach2 SA 321 Super Frelon.
At first glance the mouldings seem crisper and the flash at a minimum. A better instruction sheet than normal.
I might be able to use a 1/72 MH-53 detailing kit for the interior.
The glazing is typical with Mach2 kits.

News appears to indicate that Mach2 may be releasing a 1/72nd Bristol Britannia for SMW this year.

Could be interesting for some, whilst others scream in horror, but its a large British Turbo Prop airliner that was used by the RAF and had some interesting projects.

You can bet Frankenstein above will abuse and butcher a few kits for the sake of it  :banghead:

Investing in moulding a vacform replacement canopy for it would be a good business move............
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I think I'd check my drugs cabinet as a first off  ;) Only built one Mach2 kit and if I'm really honest I haven't been that naughty again so no need for a second  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Sounds nice, wonder if I can come up with something to justify getting one

There was one effectively, the CL-44O, which was a 'Guppy-ised' CL-44, which was in itself developed from the Britannia.

Thanks Kit,
The Britannia was considered as an AEW platform according to Chris Gibson ' The Air Staff and AEW' publication. The first idea was to use the same system as the Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star. Two  different styles of rotating radomes were also considered.

The Wooksta!

Means there's an injection basis for a Canadair Argus.  Which will please quite a few of the Canadian contingent.

When is Mach Poo going to look at an Avro Tudor though?

Mach 2 has made a stealth announcement for a 1/72 Bristol Britannia at Telford.

The announcement was done via the France based Master 194 Forum

Looks very good, if the price is below £50. I might be tempted to buy one.

Might be, might be.  Past experience has put the Mach 2 aircraft at about $Au80-90 when released.

Does anybody else think the upper-wing roundels are a bit too far inboard on that model?

Heavens yes, WAY too far inboard.

As for the price, I reckon it'll be way over £50. The list price for the Seamaster was £82 when I got my Monterey. Mind you, I didn't pay that much............  ;)
