Well I've now got the idea, I have the model to recycle and 3 months to do it in. The fun will start very soon.
Any chance of a 2-week extension?

EE Lightning, yes? I could see it with MiG-21 drop tanks on the overwing pylons and AA-7s or something on the fuselage.

Wing fences - yes.
Overwing tanks - yes but I think only 2.
General appearance - inspired mostly by the Su-7 Fitter, a little bit - but not a lot - of wing surgery called for.
Weaponry - I think I'll be inspired by the Su-9 Fishpot (ie 4 x AAMs, probably IR missiles (AA-2s) 'cos that's al the Lightning had).
Model coming out of the loft in a few days and them time to slap on the Modelstrip!

So here's the donor model:

Must have made this around 15-20 years ago - Airfix 1/72 Lightning F.1A modded to F.3 through the addition of a fin and Red Tops from a long redundant Frog F.6. Replacement Airfix F.3 on the bench ready to be done later this year!
Slight revision to plans - plan now is to use pylons, missiles, fin/rudder and decals from Kopro Su-9 (which will be westernised eventually). Wing fences - yes, and based on MiG-19 fences - but no overwing tanks at the moment. Pylons and missiles under the wings using the MiG-19's missile layout as a template. Oh, and I've decided against the wing surgery.
Can't see the finished item being anything other than overall natural metal.

There was a Lightning that was an airfield decoy in RAFG that was cut up and painted to look like a Mig-21....I'll see if I can find a pic later on.

Finless and forlorn after stripping.....

Some (but thankfully not much) filling and sanding to follow, then Fishpot bits to add. The filler you can see at the moment dates back to the original build when I applied too much glue and the plastic started to bubble and melt!
I'll be using MiG-19 plans to sort out the pylon spacing and also as the basis of a wing fence. I think I'll stick to a Lightning-style spread of shades of natural metal, but with Soviet touches (eg, undercarriage and wheel well colours, dielectric panels, etc).

Right. Su-9 fin and pylons fitted, filling done but sanding yet to be done. Bit of touching up paint-wise in the cockpit and undercarriage areas done, wing fences (to be made out of a pair of old Matchbox Lightning overwing tank pylons) to follow. Once sanding is done then its canopy back on, various pitots and aerials to be attached and the model primed.
Fitting the 'new' fin was interesting - the rudder is a separate item and, boy, was it a tussle to fit! And that shade of blue really is the colour of the Kopro Su-9 kit.

Well it's better than Ban Dai's traditional Gundam Puke Green for mecha kits - that made working on models a test of endurance, will power and intestinal fortitude!

Realised the other day that there's a major fault with the 'Fubar'. The USSR used 'semi-sequential' designations (odd numbers for fighters, even numbers for bombers/transport with some exceptions). My Angliyskoye Elyektrechyeskoye sequence was based on the first Soviet jet bomber (the Kanbersk) being the AnE-1, the 'Fubar' the AnE-2. Now actually it should be the AnE-2 for the Kanbersk (NATO reporting name 'Bashful') and AnE-3 for the Fubar. So what was the AnE-1? Need to think about that one - it has to be a fighter, though.

According to Wikipedia, EE were founded in 1918. They dabbled in airplane design through the 20s, producing a handful of in-house designed aircraft:

The Wren of 1923, one of the first ultralight aircraft. It was a high-winged monoplane with an empty weight of 232 lbs.

Yeah, that's what I said.
The M.3 Ayr, also of 1923. This was a three-seat flying boat, which could never get itself airborne.
Last came the P.5 Kingston, a twin-engined flying boat. This seems to have been a decent airplane (see below), but there were no orders, and EE shut their aviation works in 1926.

During WWII, they built Hampden and Halifax bombers, and after the war, built 1300 Vampire fighters. That could be your "AnE-1".
