Would there be a viable replacement for the magnesium alloy that the airframe is made of?

Huh?
The He 70 'airframe' was a combination of a flush-riveted duralumin fuselage and wood
ply sheathed two-spar wings.

Any magnesium (Elektron alloy) in the He 70 would have most likely have been in the landing gear.

I really like the He-70 and its derivatives.  Does anyone do a larger scale kit of it - say in 1/48 or even 1/32?

Hi Greg,
a 1/48th kit was announced a couple of years back from one of the Central European or Russian manufacturers,
don't recall exactly, but, nothing has been sighted in the flesh so far.

A scale-o-rama of 1/72nd early model long-nosed, He 111 (Roden[t] kit with the elliptical wings) would be really close to a 1/48th
He 70 dimensionally, being about one scale foot to great in span but almost dead nuts in length.
A 1/48th to 1/32nd scale-o-rama would also work, again being about one foot over in span.The straight edged wings would,
of course, need more work and the nose would need to be lengthened

Well as I've said elsewhere, German turret fighter or German light bomber (which it was, to a degree, of course). At least the first of these is on my good intentions list, since I'll have a spare, gunless Defiant turret at some point.

The Revell kit is very good whiff fodder because it comes with separate V and radial engines, which means it's easy to up-engine and contributes thought-provoking spare bits for other builds.... :thumbsup:

For me, it's inline engined version has to be one of the most asthetically pleasing aircraft then or now.  Just plain (lol) beautiful in my opinion.  The radial 170 gives it a somewhat more warlike look, but I like Weaver's idea of a turret, sort of like the turretted trainer variants of the Battle.

Weren't there some colour profiles around?

Anyway, the Revell/Matchbox kit is great for whiffing as has been said, as alternative engines or modifications can swiftly be added. I fancy a longer-nosed inline variety, as well as bigger radial-engined versions. Licence-produced too.

1. BOAC wartime in earth/dark green with sky undersurfaces and decals from the Airfix Dragon Rapide.

2. USAAC radial-engined bomber...yellow wings, blue fuselage, etc.

3. USAAF WW2 "hack", with a bigger engine and either a BG or FG markings.

4. RAF Day Bomber or Night Bomber colours as an alternative to the Battle. Lengthened inline nose....Merlin engine. Also, it'd look cool with a Griffon engine and 5-blade prop.

If I can find some suitable floats, it'd be great in post-war Yugoslavian markings, or even wartime Croation?

I'd also thought of a ski-equipped winter Finnish one.

My He70 whif was going to be Handley-Paged, but I've got a better idea for the name I came up with (I know, daft way of coming up with a whif idea), so now it's going to be anglicised in a more Airspeed/de Havilland way using a Bristol Pegasus.  Assuming I actually do get round to building it!   
Maybe a Bristol Hercules and extended wings could fit your RAF idea - a slightly higher-tech competitor to the Wellesley, perhaps? ;D ;D

Always thought the He-70 was a case of nice body, shame about the face.  The BMW VI just spoilt the looks, the Hungarian radial engined versions looked a little better.  A nice sleek nose would do it some good.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
