I picked up the operational Ki 78. 2 kits in the box so excellent value

nabbed the little Hughes 500 (italian Breda Nardi version) at my local hobby shop, a delicate little model indeed, like the 2 versions too, round and pointed nose canopies provided, def good value

I thought so to Lee, there's a photo of the Heston-Napier in one of the latest Air-Britain quarterly I get.  I thought this was a kit of it when I first saw the ad, it is so similar

The Peapod 500's are very nice especially as you get both types of nose canopies (pointed and round) with each box.

Thanks for posting the Ki-78 pics and model announcement. Though I have stopped myself from purchasing models for "new" builds, I just might *HAVE* to get this one.

The following URL has a nice explanation of the Ki-78, BUT...the first line of the story attributes its lineage to the Ki-61 Hein. Say WHAAAAT? To me, it just S-C-R-E-A-M-S Heinkel He-100, stemming from the previous Japanese purchase of the Heinkels and the fact that it is a high-speed research plane (noting that the He-100V8 took the world's speed record and nearly held it--in fact, it DID hold a piston-engined speed record that was only broken in the early eighties by Darryl Grennemyer [sp?] in a custom Bearcat or Sea Fury, I think). So, my Heinkel He-100 MANIA might force a buy!

It does look a bit like the Heston racer (I've a Dujin one somewhere) but it just said He 100 to me.

The Heston-Napier racer looks like a "GeeBee" with an inline engine, or a Hasegawa "egg-plane" version of the He-100. That H-N racer looks SHORT and hard-to-control. No wonder it crashed on its maiden flight.

The photo of the H-N in the Air-Britain mag makes it look a little longer, it doesn't look stumpy like the Heritage Aviation pic.

AZ are releasing the Shenyang F.5 (read MiG-17F) in 72nd.  Seems a bit pricey ($35+USD ) but by all accounts a nice kit.

Hm, do AZ have some connection with Avis models, who did the Audax I've just bought? The sprue arrangement of the Demon and the Audax are almost identical and the box art style is very similar too.

Bit of a let down, those kits.

They are pricey for what you get considering that there's no intake trunking to speak of so you can see the cockpit tub construction right through the intake mouth.


In more recent AZ news; I've noticed they have single and two seat kits of the Soko J-22 Orao in future releases, so I know what I'm setting money aside for

I also picked up one of their new 1/72 Let L-200 Morava kits recently and its very nice. Certainly something nice if you like unusual GA types. Good bit of Whiff potential in it too.
